Communication with Nikki had been good. However, we arrived at the property to find it dirty, smelly and in need of some tlc. Initially, I decided to clean the sticky kitchen, dirty cupboard handles and utensils. I removed everything from the worktop and began cleaning only to find what we were told were cockroach droppings in the corner - not what you want to find on a worktop. As for the rest of the apartment, the walls were grubby, there was a thick layer of dust on the light fittings and skirting. The bathroom was very tired, the bottom 6" of the door frame mouldy and warped, and the shower sealant black with mould.
The towels and bedding were old and stained and to cap it all, so was the mattress and I'm not talking about a spilled cup of coffee :-( not nice. There was no way we could stay, and whilst we appreciated the quick offer of a refund, we had no alternative accommodation. An online search revealed little alternative in the way of apartments and with a flight leaving literally 3 and a half hours later, we decided to cut our losses and fly home, losing hundreds of pounds on car hire and flights. I understand we aren't the first to have decided not to stay in the apartment and I hope the owners now do something about it before anyone else's holiday is ruined.
