Perfect Flinders base
Unfortunately our stay was cut short by bushfire but the day and a half we spent there was nice. It is a great location to explore flinders Chase National park which is magnificent and nearby Hanson Beach is stunning. The retreat even has some small nature walks around the property that we saw some great birdlife on (they have their own bird blind so bring your camera). The bbq area is great and we enjoyed some home cooked steaks so don't be afraid to ask the restaurant to borrow what you need - they were very helpful. The manager handled the bushfire scare really professionally and calmly and we were upset to leave - we did not get to try the restaurant which some locals in town told us is great.
Staff was so helpful and beautiful, hotel location is excellent,
Rooms had everything you need.aircon makes a massive noise in the room, we were there new years eve and the food at the restaurant was a bit disappointing!
Over all a lovely place.
We tried early check in but the room wasn’t ready. When we finally did check in we got a little tour of the property, complete with a wallaby chomping on some plants nearby.
The room itself had a funky, musty smell but was clean overall. The heater worked well, though the power tripped a couple of times (kind of expected that far out in nature!)
Dinner in the on-site restaurant was delicious. Breakfast was good too with a buffet.
Overall a great, affordable stay in the heart of nature!
Was disappointed that the advertised safari tours are only every other night and not at all during the day during low season months. Hotel location is fab. Access to the national park until midnight per the ranger. Ideal if you want to be in the park.
Lovely location, easy access to nature walks including the resident Koala, restaurant food was very nice.
Only downside was limited access to wi fi from main lobby.

This 'retreat' is certainly near the wilderness, and makes a lot of money because of that. The room rates were twice as high as anywhere else on the island, and I'm not sure why. If you dine locally, then the food is excellent, but pricey for what you get. I guess you are paying for freight and all sorts of other things.
Really enjoyed my stay with my wife and two teenage daughters. Great place to relax and enjoy the national park.

It is very well located. I don’t think it should be rated four star as the rooms were basic. However the water pressure in the shower was the best ever.
The upgraded room had a good size space and included a kitchen. We ate dinner there both nights. The food was excellent and it was lovely dining al fresco with wallabies hopping in the garden near us. Close to nearby sites like Flinders Chase Park, Kelly Hill caves.
We had a fantastic stay here- if you want to experience wildlife and nature then this is the place for you! Definitely take the evening nature walk, that was amazing, so many animals.

Thanks, but no thanks. Will not return.
We were in a courtyard suite, not in our typical price range but decided to splurge a little. It was comfortable, nothing fancy but that's what you'd expect from something so remote. Wifi didn't work much either (not even in the restaurant), but again, it's remote.
The reason for my rating is that when we woke up, there was no water at all. When asking at reception they were like "yep, we're aware, just happened this morning". I had to ask how long it'll take to fix to receive an answer, they didn't even say that just expected me to walk away accepting that sh*t happens and a $260 room doesn't have water. We needed to kill time so went to get breakfast. At $25 per person, but we couldn't head out as planned so there wasn't any alternative. When the water finally came back it was fluctuating from scalding hot to normal, burning me several times in the space of 5 minutes (4mins is their recommended shower time, I overstayed).
I asked when checking out if we get any "no water discount" or perhaps the breakfast dicounted/free but they just said a very nonchalant "no". Paid the bill and left.
Will not return.
To be clear, I get that it's remote, I get that things like are unpredictable and can happen, but if someone pays $260 for one night for two people, you COULD be a little nicer and compensate them for the inconvenience and for losing a bunch of their very valuable island time.
Ps: Restaurant was great, delicious food, no issues with that at all.
un trés bon séjour dans un bon environnement malgré un petit probléme au restaurant

Great location.
Great location to visit Flinders Chase National Park.
The room was basic and dated, but it was comfortable. The staffs were friendly and helpful.
There were complimentary wifi but only at the reception lobby. They said they were working on expanding that in the future. There was a pool table, books and DVDs to borrow to keep guests occupied. There were short walking tracks through the bush land from the property which we took for our morning walk, and nocturnal tour you can book in.
The only down side was our bin wasn't emptied from the guests before us.
Overall a nice and peaceful stay.
This property exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, and the bed was comfy. We didn't spend too much time on the property as we went exploring once we checked in; however, there is a courtyard that is nice, that has critters coming and going that you can check out. The wifi was reliable. This property is essential if you are going to Flinders Chase.
