First of all, thank you for choosing our studio. We're sorry this wasn't the place for you. Everything seemed fine until you came back from dinner. You texted us late at night that you caught a cockroach and put it outside and you wanted a refund. It is no secret there are roaches in Hawaii and we don’t think anyone should expect a refund for seeing one. Roaches like to live in wet places. We are located in the sunniest, driest place in Hawaii so there aren’t a lot around. In fact we have never seen any in your studio. You did and we are truly sorry for your bad luck and upset. We also wish we could have recommended some places for you to eat. We live in a private-residence area that’s only fifteen minutes away from the Mauna Kea hotel, the Westin hotel, and Mauna Lani resort and shopping center. All have great restaurants. Information and menus from nearby restaurants were in the counter drawer as well as a key for locking the doors from the outside. We are sorry we didn’t have better communications and really hope you found a nice place to stay and loved your vacation. Aloha.

I am sincerely glad you enjoyed the views and the location. We have had 150 reviews of our cottage thus far, and gratefully average 4.8 Stars, which indicates that the vast majority of our guests are pleased with our cottage as it is. It is of course unlikely if not impossible to please everyone in all regards, especially when things such as the comfort of a bed is such a subjective and wide-ranging preference. Thankfully, most that have said anything say how comfortable it is. Regarding ants, here in Hawaii the ants can be a pest sometimes way more than others, and especially if food is left on the counters or anyplace else other than the fridge. It sounds like you did leave food on the table and perhaps elsewhere, which is enough to entice them in. If I had seen them I would definitely have treated the house and the outside for them. Again, when looking at past reviews the majority that mention it comment on the cleanliness. I believe the comment on the noise from upstairs is an exaggeration, as we both are quite careful in this department, and are reasonably sure this has not been noted previously. In fact, many comment on the "quiet". The house is a "pole" house quite high on stilts so the bottom level is not a "basement", as a basement is built INTO the ground and that is not the case here at all.
