This was our second time staying at the Ocean Hideaway and our stay here was very relaxing. The view, the cozy fire and comfy beds made it the perfect place to stay for a long weekend. We will definitely be back!
We so enjoyed our stay at Ocean Hideaway. What a beautiful setting! The mornings in the hot tub overlooking the lovely grounds and the ocean were incredible. The days dining outdoors, and the nights by the fireplace were heaven. Looking forward to coming back!
location is awesome we arrived right after a storm and the waves crashing in to the rocky shore were 20-30 feet high. very dramatic. The wood burning stove was great with plenty of firewood provided.
This property is all about location. The views can not be beat. The house had everything that we needed. One would have higher expectations for the furnishings, bedding and linens for the price point.
Perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the coast. Could use a restocking of some basics, salt, pepper, dishwasher detergent and paper towels. The hot tub was lovely, overlooking gorgeous property and views. Instructions were clear and absolutely no problems communicating with host. Definitely recommend for small group looking for a quiet retreat.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at the property. It's close to many parks so we did a lot of hiking and the kids loved exploring the numerous ocean coves. We also took some great drives up Highway 1 including the ones to get to the house. Everything was as stated/pictured including beautiful views. The area was peaceful and quiet with the only sounds being the ocean and birds. Host Lisa was great, provided detailed check-in instructions and checked in to ensure all was good and if we needed anything. I hope we can get back again sometime soon...it was hard to come back to our summer heat.
Lovely property with a private bluff with a breathtaking view of the crashing waves and the birds going about their lives along the coast. Can just sit on the bluff and enjoy the beauty of it all. The house is fully equipped. The wifi worked well.
Lovely home in a beautiful location. Huge front yard for the dog to chase the ball while we gazed at the ocean. Wood stove very easy to use and warms the house up quickly. We really enjoyed our stay and will love to return.
Everything was perfect!!
You have your own private spot along the coast. Plenty of beach and trails nearby and Timber Cove Resort/ Restaurant practically within walking distance, great food and great service.
We have stayed at many beautiful coastal homes and Ocean Hideaway is one of our favorites! A gorgeous home, incredible views, private, quiet, and nature out every window. Can't wait to return!

Fantastic!!!
We absolutely loved this house! Ocean views from every room, going to sleep with the sound of the waves crashing, and total privacy! We saw whales, deer and even a bobcat! Close to beautiful beaches!! Couldn’t ask for anything more! We look forward to staying at Ocean Hideaway again!
My husband, college-aged son, mother, and two sighthounds stayed at the Ocean Hideaway to escape the fourth of July fireworks. The location was amazing and private, with daily deer sightings and many types of birds to observe from the large windows overlooking the ocean. We stocked up on groceries ahead of time (with one visit to the Fort Ross store) and spent most of our visit hiking or hanging out and looking at the waves as they crashed against the rocks of the cove. This view was incredibly relaxing, particularly accompanied by the sound of the ocean, wind, and seabirds. Our dogs enjoyed the space, too, and the private street worked well for safe, leashed walks. One thing to keep in mind is that one of the bedrooms is a loft that is open to the living and kitchen/dining area, where sound can travel. This may be an issue if folks have different sleeping schedules. On the whole the entire family enjoyed the comforts of the house combined with the pleasures of the nature surrounding it.
The overall experience was amazing! Starting with communication from the owner, Lisa, she's great and took care of everything we needed while staying instantly. The property itself is gorgeous and settled in a private neighborhood which ensures peace and quiet. If you're looking for a relaxing get away with a view this is the place to check out. My wife and I were looking for a home away from home type of get-a-way from the city, as we live in San Francisco. Lisa's place was absolutely perfect and exactly what we needed; from the cozy living room, heated by the fire place, or relaxing in the hot tub, this hidden gem is one you won't regret exploring. I haven't even mentioned the backyard.. rather you are accompanied by your four legged friend as we were or not, there is plenty of room for outdoor activities on the field (backyard), no matter what your doing. Can't wait to stay again!
This is my second stay at the "Ocean Hideaway". The first time I came by myself as a quiet retreat. This time I came with my son who is just barely out of his teenage years, and his father. The nature of this trip was very different. My son wanted to invite a friend or two, but there were several changes in our plans just before our trip, and we needed to consult with Lisa about them. I have to say, Lisa was understanding and accommodating beyond our expectations. She really tries to make her guests comfortable and welcome, even when special needs arise. Our getaway turned out just right with our cooking big dinners, enjoying lounging right on the bluff, and luxuriating in the hot-tub. Nearby, there was good surfing at a place that Lisa suggested, rock-climbing, hiking and beach-combing. We LOVED it! Thank you so much Lisa, I look forward to another trip sometime!
The property is in a pleasant subdivision that is isolated from Highway 1 noise. The host, Lisa, was polite, communicated well, and was responsive.
Timber Cove Resort dominates the south view of the ocean, which diminishes seclusion on the ocean side. You can’t see this before you arrive because they took great care to avoid showing the whole view in the property pictures.
The house and everything in it is dated. Not in a nostalgic or kitschy way, but in a tired and poorly maintained, “staying at Grandma’s” way. Nearly everything inside is circa 1980. It's not very clean: Cobwebs in corners of every room, behind every door and in every window sill; dirty windows and skylights; a 3ft stack of old newspapers; peeling paint on the half bath door; and other weird stuff like whole cupboards full of loose paper towels.
This could all be overlooked except that it's poor value for the price: We paid JW Marriott prices for what feels like a motel near an interstate.
Unfortunately, it got worse.
We brought groceries with us and left a few items on the counter. In less than an hour hundreds (thousands?) of ants swarmed from the living room, up the stairs, onto the kitchen floor and counters. There was a can of Raid under the sink that we used to kill the ants and then clean up.
That night we woke at 1:40am because one of the CO2 detectors was chirping. It needed new batteries, which I replaced.
There is a "full kitchen", but even making scrambled eggs is a challenge. The skillets should be thrown out. The kitchen has an abundance of random, old utensils in big drawers. The pantry cupboard is full of remnants from previous guests over years of stays. It should all be thrown out and stocked with a few useful items for people who do cook.
Outside, the seating options are plastic chairs and the bench near the bluff. The bench was mildewy and covered in bird poo. I scrubbed it so we had something decent to sit on while viewing the ocean. Consider better seating options such as adirondack chairs near the bluff, and ideally an umbrella since the only shade under the trees on the edge of the property.
Overall we were very very disappointed. Cleanliness was very poor: the pictures on the site are old and don’t reflect this. It needs professional pest control. The walls could use a new coat of paint. The kitchen needs to be cleaned out and then stocked with just a few decent items. The property requires regular maintenance that isn't being performed.
Beautiful location. The house met our needs. We couldn't get the lock box open when we got there. We were able to get hold of the owner (not easy to do on this part of the coast) and she directed us to a spare key box which saved our trip.
What an amazing spot! Private and secluded on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Our annual girls trip was a success! Hot tub was perfect after a day of fun and games! The host Lisa was very friendly and met us at the house to go over all of the features and functions of the property. Can’t wait to book it again in the very near future!
Great location for reaching our favorite hiking trails and beaches. The house is very comfortable and is in a very tranquil location with a beautiful view. We are looking forward to our next visit.
My husband and I shared our 5th anniversary at the Ocean Hideaway and it was absolute bliss. You can't ask for a better location. The views were stunning, and the privacy helped us cityfolk just "let it go." The house itself has incredible energy. My mom would say it has good bones. It's got all these cool little hangout spaces that made it feel bigger than it actually is.
Was it perfect? No. But it was close! My husband is a neat freak and spotted a few areas that he needed to clean upon check-in. Also, I'd recommend new comfy dining room chairs, as we spent a lot of time there playing games on a stormy day and the chairs just didn't really go with the table (IMHO). I wish there was an en suite bathroom rather than having to go down a small flight of stairs outside the bedroom when you need to pee at night. Finally, in case it's relevant, the property is
perched on a steep cliff and while there's A LOT of backyard space to run around, there isn't any fencing. One of our dogs is an explorer and she immediately tried to climb down the cliff which scared the bejesus out of us. Needless to say, she had to be leashed outside for the duration of our trip.
Thank you so much for allowing us to soak in all the good vibes at the Ocean Hideaway!
