First off I stayed with my family (myself, my wife and 3 kids ages 4, 6, and 10)
Likes:
-Very nice size cottage. Very clean and roomy for a family of 5 or 6
-Very private. Its off the main road with trees all around. Can not see any of the houses next door. about 150 of lake frontage.
-Nicely appointed with sheets, towels, kitchen supplies and games and books for those raining days.
-The sitting room sells the place with its 180 of windows overlooking the lake
-The lake is very nice, some rocks on the bottom, would recommend swimming shoes if your doing alot of swimming . Very gradual drop off, great for small kids. At the end of the 200 feet dock its still only about 3-4 feet deep.
-Very close to everything! Sleeping bear dunes, lake Michigan, Tube down the platte river, Shop, swim, eat at Frankfort, or Buela!
Room for improvement:
-Wireless internet, Says it doesn't have it but there was a router in the house...Not sure what the disconnect was between the management company and the owners...
-The dock, this is the biggest draw back. Very old and needs replaced. found screws sticking up, uneven seems very unstable. I understand due to its length it wouldn't be cheep to replace but I was nervous with my kids on it.
-A latter at the end so the kids could get in and out from the water to the dock.
-A bigger sand area, only a small 5x5 foot area currently
-The transition from the land to water could use some work. Maybe add some sand for a bigger beach and remove some of the reeds (if possible) to make a better transition for kids/people to enter exit the water
-Ant traps could be installed inside, did see some carpenter ants about, nothing crazy or excess but just an FYI
Again the negatives were minimal and I would stay here again. With some minor improvements this could easily go from a 4 star to a 5 star.
