RUNNERS/MOUNTAIN BIKERS:
Head out the door, down the peaceful lake road, and explore the nearby trails via the Gravel Pit Road trailhead/CAMBA MTN BIKE trail (.5 miles away) which leads to over 300 miles of mountain bike, ATV, and running trails.
FISHING INFO:
Discover excellent fishing opportunities on the Tiger Cat Flowage, known for its Class A musky waters. Catch musky, perch, and bluegill or try your luck fishing from our new dock for bass and panfish! A book with more detailed fishing information and maps is available in the Lake House.
SWIMMING INFO:
While swimming in McClain may not be ideal due to its mucky bottom, guests can enjoy a comfortable dip by attaching our provided lily pad to the end of the dock. For a change of scenery, swim off a pontoon or visit the island in the nearby lake for a fun beach experience. Re-create the beach-like fun for young children with our boat-themed sandbox, safely located away from the water.
BOATING INFO:
On McClain Lake there is a peaceful boating atmosphere due to a no-wake rule. However, if you still want to experience full rec activities, there is a navigable channel to Upper Twin Lake which is full rec from 10AM-5PM everyday.
While enjoying your day, make sure to stop by the Black Iron Grill, located 4 minutes away at the boat launch, where you can have a delicious meal right from your boat. If you would like to rent a pontoon, Hayward Power Sports at the same launch is your go-to place. They have everything you need for a great day on the water.
Once you've booked your trip, we'll send you an email with a discount code for 10% off your equipment rental (includes ATVs, snowmobiles, and pontoons). If you decide to bring your own boat, you will be pleased to know that there is plenty of parking available and a roundabout at the end of the drive to make maneuvering your boat a breeze. The resort has 2 docks for mooring boats so you can easily head out on the water without any hassle. Pack your gear and head out to enjoy a day filled with adventure and excitement on the lake!
ATV/UTV/SNOWMOBILERS:
The CAMBA bike trailhead is the closest trail access right at the end of Hildreth Road.
All town roads are ATV routes unless marked. Please use caution and drive slowly on our road so that we don't lose the privilege to drive on our road and because there are lots of neighbors who walk on the roads daily. Snowmobiles may wish to access trails from the lake.
PARKING/DRIVEWAY:
Summer parking for 6+ cars and winter parking for 5 cars is provided. During winter, our neighbor's drive provides added convenience as our driveway is steep. 4WD is highly recommended during winter months.
DOG POLICY:
This property welcomes dogs. Any dogs on the property should be well-behaved, sociable, and not prone to excessive barking. Dogs must be registered with the host by signing a dog agreement. A maximum of 3 are permitted, and a $100 fee per dog will be charged for additional cleaning.

It's a wonderful property for a nice family get away. We were there when the weather started to dip but still enjoyed a photo session by the lake. I can imagine how much more we could do in summer. The two houses provided a nice break between elderly adult women who went to bed early and my nieces who were in their mid 20's to hang out and tell stories. The kitchen area was just big enough for us to share a meal (15 of us) and allowed us to spread out into the living room. We loved the fireplace and hot tub. Paid for the outside wood but never got to using it-had too much fun just hanging in the lake house.

We rented both the main house and cottage. Lots of space for 12+ people. Beautiful location with activities all around the area. We brought our pontoon and the launch was so close and the lake was so peaceful. We caught lots fish off the dock and out on the lakes. So much fun. Host was wonderful and very responsive with any questions or concerns we had.

Our family had a wonderful stay at Acorn shores. The main house is spacious with great common space to hang out as well as comfortable bedrooms. The cottage was roomier than expected and offered extra flexibility in terms of sleeping arrangements. The mattresses are all very comfortable. The property offers lots of privacy and is very quiet. We enjoyed having access to kayaks to explore the lake. The hot tub was very nice to enjoy after a long day. The house was clean, well stocked with nice linens and overall a great place to stay for large groups or families. We would definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful family getaway with our adult children and grandchildren. We all had a cozy place to sleep and great spaces to gather this chilly fall weekend. We would highly recommended this cabin and lake views.

Great place to stay, the snow and being able to jump right on the lake was great. if you have a long trailer and lots of snow can make the driveway a little tight. clean place and great owners! would def stay again

The property was well stocked with extra touches. The bathrooms all had shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Appreciated the dog treats, coffee and snacks along with ingredients for s’mores.
Very clean throughout and very comfortable beds and bedding.

Great stay! The property was spacious and the larger house with smaller cabin was a great fit for our group. The only downfall was the driveway for trailer parking. Not ideal. Everything else was great!

Acorn Shores was a perfect fit for a long weekend! Brittney and Andrew were fantastic hosts - quick to respond, attentive to the little details, open to our dog coming on the trip, and very welcoming! We have stayed on the Tiger Cat Flowage three times previously and knew we were going to have a great time kayaking. The house at Acorn Shores was closer to our own home than a cabin. We wouldn’t hesitate to return!

House & cottage were as expected, although the remodeling phase in basement bedroom was not noted. Many areas are in an updating phase, but otherwise house fit all of our needs. Very tight to turn around trailers, but there is a connecting drive that we were fortunately able to use upon departure. Dirty dishes is dishwasher when we arrived, clothes dryer still full of linens as well. Floors and deck needed a good sweeping. Expensive cleaning fee and not well cleaned when we arrived. Overall nice property, we enjoyed our stay.

This was my first time to Hayward. I had been told it was beautiful, but WOW! Venue was nothing short of beautiful. Only down side of this place was the access road did not allow ATV/UTV traffic.. but there was an unload point 4 minutes away. Just required some unexpected planning to get rigs from the house to the trails… driveway is steep and tight. Small trailer would be just fine, but I wouldn’t try to take a 30’ enclosed down it. quiet and safe neighborhood. Calm and clean lake to kayak and canoe on. If possible, be sure to take in the sunset from the dock some evening! Inside of house was very clean and functional for our group of 9. Overall, outstanding experience, Andrew and Brittney were awesome to work with! Got the opportunity to briefly meet both of them when we arrived. Very down to earth people. Will definitely be back!

We had a great stay at this property! Unfortunately when check in time came the owner had sent 2 separate emails. One with the Wi-Fi information and other with the access code. The Wi-Fi email went to my spam and I didn’t notice until after the whole trip was over. There is no cell service at the property so we had to drive closer to town to email her for the Wi-Fi info and she was in Africa so we didn’t get the info until the next day. There was no welcome binder on the property with Wi-Fi info or other information. The heat was not working in the cabin building and had no way to get ahold of her. The first night we had to sleep in a pretty cold cabin but there were lots of blankets but the babies had to be in the main lake home for warmth. The next day once we we had Wi-Fi and could exchange emails she sent the maintenance man and he couldn’t figure it out so then she sent out the HVAC guy who came and all he had to do was relight the pilot light. Something I think the maintenance man could have done. After that the place warmed up nicely!
A few of our group ended up not making it but there was lots of space for playing and sleeping!
The yard was dug up due to a septic issue so it was pretty dirty and messy everywhere but the kids loved digging in the dirt.
40$ for firewood I think is a high price especially since we only got to have 1 fire.
We would definitely return the location near Hayward is great for my family and the property has such great space!!
