DISAPPOINTED

DEFINITELY A TOURIST TRAP--MANY HOMELESS AND "TRIMIGRANT" WORKERS HANGING OUT ON SIDEWALK--OLD TOWN, OLD, HIGH PRICED SHOPS---THE MAIN LOCAL SUPERMARKET WAS VERY DECENT.

Garberville is a small mountain town with some decent dining and grocery shopping given it's out of the way location. Friendly laid back feel.

In the 1920s, the remaining towering Giant Redwood trees were threatened by logging. Its champions brought H.D. Rockefeller to visit, who was impressed enough to help the state of California buy this particularly thick stand of the world's tallest trees from the logging company that owned it. These trees live so long because, for one thing, they can withstand millennia of fires. Their lower bark is thick and has little pitch, and the nearest needles can be hundreds of feet up in the air where fire can't reach them!
