Our host at Au Fer à Cheval was Romain, a friendly and helpful man. He owns about 20 English thoroughbred race horses, as well as breeds them. His farm is in a beautiful location with lovely views. It was unfortunately cold and wet for the two nights that we were there, so we couldn't use the pool, and the roads were too slippery for him to take us out in his horse-drawn carriage, but we did see two of his retired racing mares with their foals. Our room was comfortable and clean, good shower, and a small kitchenette. It's a good idea to take your own tea, coffee and milk with you. Continental breakfast was good and delivered to our room at the time we requested. A good guide book in English of what to do in the area was left in our room, but perhaps the only disadvantage of the place is that it is quite isolated and a long way from any any restaurants. Overall, a lovely place, and we'd recommended it.

Make sure you know what you’re getting from Expedia as it differs from the photo. Had we have known the family room we were offered was up 2 flights of stairs one being a wobbly spiral staircase we would have opted for something else. No staff on site on arrival, travel cot provided was broken.

Poor experience

We had arrived by bike after a 70 km ride and we found the gate closed. The time was 4pm, as indicated on the booking for check-in, but the owner told us to come one hour late because he was not home. The room was dirty, and the fourth bed fell apart in the middle of the night and was not suitable for an adult person. Breakfast had counted items and at the request to have one extra croissant the answer was "no". The place does not offer any beverages for purchase. You have to drink tap water or go to a restaurant which is 10 km away. The swimming pool area and patio are partially under construction, they can be used but cables stick out in several places.

Arrivé tard, dans un cadre champêtre très calme et agréable, je n'ai rencontré personne pour m'accueillir mais n'ai eu aucun problème pour trouver ma chambre... qui était calme, spacieuse et impeccable. Le petit-déjeuner, copieux, m'a permis de rencontrer mon hôte, très accueillant et sympathique. Le seul bémol serait la hauteur du miroir et des éléments de salle-de-bain (ainsi que des sièges de table pour le déjeuner), très mal adaptée à ma petite taille (ou à celle de jeunes enfants). À part ça, je reviendrais avec grand plaisir, si l'occasion se présente !

Très bon accueil, hôte chaleureux et qui donnent de bons conseils pour visiter le coin. Le cadre est magnifique avec les chevaux, la vue et le gîte est cosy. Le petit déjeuner est copieux et ouvre l'appétit même si on a pas l'habitude de manger le matin et servi jusque 11 heures. Endroit très calme, on entend pas les autres visiteurs. Mon séjour était malheureusement très court mais j’ai énormément apprécié mon temps ici. L’endroit n’étais pas trop loin de la route principale tout en restant intime et calme. Les terrains étaient très beau. La chambre était spacieuse et propre, avec tout ce dont j’avais besoin après une longue journée. J’ai adorer recevoir mon déjeuner au lit le lendemain, une belle attention y fût donner. Bref, je recommande fortement cette établissement!
