We rented this home based on remoteness of the house but proximity to State Parks for hiking. The house fit the bill on both accounts. The house is off of a small road, and we saw only a few cars on it the entire 4 nights we were there. Saw a few deer feeding at the feeder, but no other wildlife on the property that we saw. We had a mix up when we arrived (late after a long drive), and the house had not been cleaned. While this was very frustrating, I called the owner the next morning and he had a cleaning person out within the hour to do a deep clean (and made other accommodation which we found very fair). He was very responsive during our stay with any questions or issues. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything you might need (we cooked all meals at the house), and it is very organized! The washer and dryer looked brand new (they are in an outside building connected to the home).
I will point out that the listing has several things that are not updated or not accurate (the listing has already been updated since our stay last weekend, so that will help future renters). Since I base my choice of rental on the listed attributes of a home, I feel it is important to highlight these. The listing stated the home included WiFi, which it does not (I see the listing has now been updated). The bedding is not as listed or as pictured (one of the secondary bedrooms has only a queen bed, not a queen and a twin as shown). There was only one covered parking spot that we saw, not two (the other carport spot appears to have been converted to a nice outdoor dining spot; was fine for us as we only had one vehicle). The fireplace listed in the living room has a sign saying "do not use" but the outdoor fireplace looked very nice. I could not find the third fireplace mentioned in the listing. The listing states this is a 5 acre property, but Zillow shows it as 1 acre. Not sure which is correct, but due to the way the cedar trees grow (almost horizontally sometimes), we could not access much other than the property immediately around the house. The river that is mentioned was completely dry when we were there last weekend (the Johnson creek runs near the property and had a few inches in it).
All that said, I think the home can be a great jumping off point for the State Parks, hunting, Fredericksburg etc. Based on the the listing when we rented it, some things were not what we expected, but hopefully it is more accurate now. Have fun!
