A lovingly-restored traditional medina house with modern touches. This beautiful one-bedroom Apartment in the centre of the old city (Medina) of Fès allows you to step back in time without sacrificing modern conveniences. Overlooking the vibrant streets, it’s the perfect place to see the sights of this ancient city, especially from the stunning Roof Terrace. Located off a popular street and surrounded by tiny artisan shops and bustling souks, it’s both easy to find and close to all you need.
The space
Experience life at the very heart of this vibrant city, the ancient Medina (city) of Fès. Over 300 years old, the house was sympathetically and extensively renovated in 2009, and offers two very special one-bedroom apartments, each with private bathroom, kitchen, living area and double bedroom. The house provides the perfect space to experience the rich tapestry of Medina life; a calm and relaxing retreat after a day exploring the maze of streets. The incredible roof terrace provides stunning, 360-degree views over the Medina; the ideal place to relax at sunset, and listen to the adhan (call to prayer).
The Windows Apartment is on the first floor, and has a unique calm atmosphere. With its high ceilings, tiled floors and many windows, it provides a cool environment in the heat of summer, but can be warm and cosy in winter. There is one bedroom (with double bed and desk), a comfy living room with a large L-shaped sofa, and a kitchenette (complete with a fridge, and a small hob - ideal for preparing light meals). There is also a fabulous large bathroom, featuring a triangular tadelakt and zellij (tiled) bathtub - and a great shower. There is a shared washing machine in the basement of the house.
The panoramic Roof Terrace, which is shared with the Windows Apartment, is accessed by stairs. You will often find you have it all to yourself. You will be stunned by the 360-degree view across the Medina and to the hills beyond.
Guest access
There are two Apartments in the house. The only shared spaces are the street entrance and hallway, the stairs up to the Roof Terrace, and the Roof Terrace itself. The entrances to the individual Apartments, and the Apartments themselves, are private.
Other things to note
Due to the many narrow staircases in the house, it is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Please note that as the apartment is on the second floor and has many windows, some street noise filters up. With no cars, this is just the sound of passing donkeys, children on their way to school, and friends catching up outside. The Apartment allows a fascinating glimpse into Medina life from a place of seclusion. Things usually quieten down in the early evening, although in the hot summer months when people make more of their life outside, it may go on a little later.
