We loved our stay at Christiana and Hans' apartment. They were wonderful hosts, welcoming us with a jar of sour cherry preserves and sending us off with a bottle of local wine (Christiana works at the town wine cooperative, which is literally next door). The apartment was quite comfortable for the two of us, with an ample living/dining room, a nice large bathroom, and nice outdoor spaces. It was immaculately clean and fresh towels were provided halfway through our visit.
Durbach is a lovely little town, nestled in a narrow valley surrounded by beautiful hillside vineyards through which we took a number of pleasant walks. There is a very decent grocery a block from the apartment, two excellent bakeries in town, and plenty of restaurant choices, though we became particular fans of the local Weinestube.
The town is a perfect base for exploring the black forest and beyond. It is less than 10 minutes to the train station in Offenburg and to the A5, the main north/south Autobahn, so getting to cities and towns on the western edge of the area is quick and easy. Baden Baden is only about 30 minutes away, Heidelburg one hour, and the French border only 20 minutes. It is also well-located for exploring the interior of the black forest, close to many beautiful towns and villages like Gengenback and Sasbachwalden.
We have been using HomeAway for years now, and I have to say that this apartment is one of the best values we have encountered. So, if you're looking for a nice place to stay in the Schwarzwald for a ridiculously low price, this is it.
