Our family stayed in the winter months, for several weeks. Our stay was delightful. The house was cozy, the walk to the beach was just perfect. We loved waking up to cows in the yard and seagulls crying and the sound of the ocean. We got a chance to meet some of the neighbors, who were very friendly, and someone's lovely black dog who visited us each day. She joined us on our daily walk to the beach or around the neighborhood, and the whole family fell in love with her.
The house is about 10 minutes from Dingle. The local grocery stores are good. Supervalu has some great sales, and Lidl's prices and produce selection are great. This was important to us because we were staying a long time and didn't want to spend $$ eating out all the time. If you like brown bread with your soup, Courtney's bakery in Dingle makes the most amazing "Dingle Health Bread," which you can get at Spar or the Texaco convenient store (always crowded, very popular with the locals!) when the bakery is closed. The kids always fought over the last piece!
The town was very quiet when we were there as many businesses were closed for the season, but the ones that were open were wonderful. We met kind and helpful people at the produce store (Kingdom Fresh), the cinema (Phoenix), Dierdre's, the stained glass place next to the church, Dingle Aquarium, Explorer's World (Roy was amazing with helping the kids learn), and Catriona's (a hair salon across from the marina where they cut my daughter's bangs free of charge! Thank you, Catriona). We really enjoyed crepes from the crepe stand in town when it was open. The linen shop was also great, they had such beautiful things, from nightgowns to table linens.
Many of the restaurants were closed, but the ones that were open were all good. We didn't have a single disappointing meal. We especially liked Dierdre's Cafe for lunch and Fishbox for dinner. My one criticism would be that all the restaurants (except the Chinese and pizza places) had basically the same menu, so it was hard to find variety. Novecento, the pizza place, was excellent for take out pizza.
We very much enjoyed a drive around Slea Head and all the sights on that drive. Also close by are horse back riding at Long's Riding Stables, Inch Beach, Minard Castle, and Tralee and Killarney are both about an hour away and worth the drive for a day.
We had a fabulous extended stay at this lovely home in Dingle!
