Damascus, VA was a new destination for our annual GETAWAY.
(This year's acronym...Girlfriends Enjoying Trails All While Acting Youthful!) We're so happy that we found "A River's Edge Lodging." Sixteen women strong from the WNC mountains definitely give it a 5 Star rating.
It is a beautiful, immaculate home with furnishings to match, situated right on the river with an easy walk to shopping, hiking, swimming pool, park, Farmer's Market and shuttle services for the Virginia Creeper Trail. (The Bike Station guys took great care of our every need and seemed to enjoy doing so.)
Our large group made full use of the multiple, comfortable gathering spaces, both inside and out, of this 1930's bungalow style home. The bright, fully equipped kitchen, with abundant counter space and prep areas, easily accommodated many chefs working together at every meal. The second full-size fridge in the laundry room (with washer and dryer) was a godsend.
Plenty of comfy beds, lush linens and towels, along with spacious bathrooms ensured all were well rested and up and out on time to explore the area.
The Old Mill Inn and Restaurant, 2 blocks away, with a large deck overlooking the river provided a respite from the heat with an extensive beer and wine list and a good lunch menu.
The owner, Rocky was easy/pleasant to work with....always willing to answer all questions and always in a timely manner. He even provided a well-stocked box of games, puzzles, etc. for our entertainment, as initially the weather forecast did not look promising for our stay. Thankfully, that was not the case.
Would recommend this house for family reunions and vacations (accommodates both children and elderly), wedding parties, girlfriend gatherings.
We all want to return to Damascus and "A River's Edge Lodging."
