  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

There was a pervasive smell in the 2nd floor hallway as you stepped out of the room. The staff was helpful, friendly and efficient But no overnight staff.

The price was great compared to all the surrounding hotels. Once we got there we realized why. The hallways and rooms had a bad smell, mainly the hallways, i held my breath walking through. No staff from 11pm to 7am which i thought was strange and thankfully we got there early enough. The staff who was there to check us in was super friendly and made us feel welcomed. It was a one night stay so not bad but would pay extra to stay in one of the surrounding hotels next trip.

Customer service was great. But the drawers for the dresser were broken. And the drawer in the kitchen was missing. Also it only came with one small trash can in the bathroom. And the internet was not great.

I hate to leave a bad review, but this hotel is just not a safe place for the casual traveler. There was a lot of drug activity going on both inside and in the parking lot. The room was just generally dirty despite clear attempts by the staff to clean it. We elected not to stay and canceled our reservation. The front desk staff was super nice and accommodating.

This property looks very unkempt. The walls are paper thin, the rooms are small. No soap, lotions or blow dryers available. No iron. The rooms smell very moldy or as if previously occupied by pets. The draws are broken. The only positive thing about the facility was that the front desk staff were friendly and informative.

Nope

Felt uncomfortable and uneasy staying here. Room was dirty, all things were stained. Chair was sticky. Hallway was dirty, sticky and smelled like marijuana, cigarettes and incense. People live here and were hanging around so it made me feel unsafe. I left after 30 minutes, left the key at the front desk as no one was there. Staff was incredibly nice however.

Basic economy hotel in a good location. Needs updates but again, expected for the price. The saving grace was the front desk staff, Brianna. She was super friendly, very helpful on multiple occasions during the week stay, and kind enough to work with us on a late check out last minute. Just a joy to work with in every way and she is a a great asset to the hotel and deserves a raise :-)

This is a low budget Extended Stay hotel. We selected this option because it had a kitchen and there were no supplies to cook any food. We asked for a pot or a pan at the front desk and it was going to cost $40 to buy one from them. This is ridiculous!
