The cottage sits on 17 acres that are shared with the landowners in case you need anything. It is a private, peaceful, hobby farm and is equipped with all you’ll need to make your stay comfortable. We supply coffee, tea, creamer, sugar and small snacks for your convenience. Step outside onto the deck with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine and breathe in the crisp mountain air.
This countryside retreat has access to unlimited activities in both Nevada & Placer counties. It is in an excellent location close to many activities, attractions & happenings in Nevada & Placer County. Equestrian ranches, wineries, breweries, live music, nightlife, kayaking, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, fine dining, community events, farmers markets, boutique shopping, & more. There is an abundance of trails, lakes, and rivers to enjoy nearby (Yuba, Bear & American). Enjoy the peace & quiet and take in the sunset views through the oaks & pines, with glimpses of wildlife passing through. On those hot summer days the North Fork American river is a short (5 min-3 mile) drive for a cool, refreshing dip.
Please note: No pets are allowed; Although the home has a fireplace, it is NOT available for guest use; There are NO wood or charcoal fires allowed on the property as we are in a high fire area.
Guest access; You may visit the goats and pigs but please do not enter the animal pens. We also have chickens and roosters but they are located at the upper part of the property, so they are not accessible. If you are interested in farm fresh eggs at the time of your stay, please let us know. There are glamping accommodations on the lower part of where you will be staying, so please be considerate of guests if walking around.
Other things to note: Colfax is a quaint, historic railroad town with lots of charm and plenty to do in the great outdoors. We are located about two hours from the Bay Area, just 45 minutes from Sacramento and only 45 minutes east on I-80 will bring you to world class skiing on Donner Summit and lots of other activities in the mountains. Colfax offers many restaurants, shops, stores and nearby Rollins Lake (15 min away-10 miles) is great for boating, fishing, water skiing or swimming. The property is located within a 5-minute drive (3 miles) to the Weimar hiking trails system. The Colfax Amtrak stop is a 15-minute drive from the house and there is also a Greyhound line that stops in town.
The American River canyon offers kayaking, white water rafting, mountain biking, hiking and fishing. In the surrounding countryside, one can find many small vineyards & wineries, breweries or roadside fruit stand. It can be both sunny and cool here since we are located in the foothills, above the fog and at snowline.
