Lots of Prairie Dogs in the park but they like to disappear before I can get good pictures. This is the closest to one that I have gotten, only a few feet away! He doesn't look happy... #NewMexico #Animals #PrairieDog
Wildlife on the high plains seem few and far between, but that is because these little guys live under it. Prairie dogs, the annoyance to farmers but adorable companions to hikers, populate any unclaimed ground they can. They live in families, called colonies, and guard their tunnels in shifts. True to their names, these dogs bark! Its more of a squeak, and their tail twitches every time they make the noise, but it lets the rest of their colony know that danger is approaching. This has officially kicked off a dream to take a good picture of one standing up. If you get within about 500 feet of them, they lay down like this one. Adorable, but frustrating.

We stayed for a week while visiting family. The host was very responsive and the property was quite comfortable. It was well stocked and had everything we needed. We travel to Clovis twice a year and will definitely be booking this place again!

Since I just saw Jurassic World this past week, and everybody seems to be obsessed with science creating animals, I thought I would share one that was created by man, but off of the big screen. This is a ZeeDonk, which sounds dorky in my opinion. Genetic crossbreed of a, you guessed it, Zebra and Donkey! First used in Southern Africa as a pack animal that was hardier than both of its parents. Unfortunately, like all crossbreeds, they are born sterile. Which dashes my dreams of a Zeedonk-Mule hybrid.
