Clean and comfortable but unfriendly and unhelpful
It's very unusual for me to leave a negative review on Hotels.com, but unfortunately I didn't have the best stay here. First off the hotel is impossible to find - it took me half an hour and the hotel isn't in the location given on the map here or on Google Maps. Two of the three staff don't speak English and don't try to help. One night they locked me out of the hotel with a metal gate so I had to call them and ask to be let in. I'm used to very friendly, helpful hotel staff in Thailand, I love this country, but at this hotel I didn't feel welcome at all and I couldn't wait to leave.
Friendly staff. Good location near Tha Pae Gate. Not many rooms so the guesthouse is nice and quiet. Hot showers and clean rooms. Bed is firm but that is not uncommon in Thailand. Has a covered patio in front of building with seating if you want to relax outside. Walk to good restaurants and street food. Yes I would stay again.
Great value for the area. Walk to many of the main attractions. There is always something going on at the ThaPhae Gate. Lovely and attentive staff. Service with the famous Thai smile every day. Laundry onsite for a small fee which is very convenient. Room was small but adequate and there is a large closet with shelves so you can keep your things out of the way. I also had a nice balcony great to let in natural light. Solo female traveler and I felt safe and comfortable with the cameras and someone was always onsite. It’s located behind a building off the main road so there wasn’t a lot of street noise which was great. Google maps is off by a few meters. Tell your driver it’s in between Tapae Gate Kafe and Wat Dokkham. Truly enjoyed my stay.
Great location! Walking distance to ThaPhae Gate, Sunday walking market, street food vendors, night bazaar, restaurants, services & popular Wats. I had the suite with two rooms. One side was the bedroom (2 twin beds) the other was the large bathroom and dressing room. The jetted tub had tape covering the knobs so not sure if it worked, but I didn’t plan on using it so not an issue for me. The shower stall is separate from the toilet which is great, but it does leak so the bathroom gets wet. Nice balcony. Staff is super sweet and accommodating. Typical hard Thai beds but I had no issues sleeping once I got used to them. They give you clean towels but bring a washcloth if you are accustomed to using one. Most places in Asia don’t provide. I would stay again.
Location is super nice just few minutes from The Phae Gate.
That is a guest house and lock the main door from early evening around 7pm so must bring a key when you'll going out evening.
The sign for this hotel isn’t easy to spot as the Tuk Tuk drive just dropped me off and I had to wander around a bit before a lady standing under an umbrella ask if I was “Megan” she then lead me down the little alley to the hotel. If you stay look for the sign posted on the concrete wall that says Tapae Gate Villa. The staff was very friendly and the room was comfortable and decently clean. I didn’t stay here for very long and spent most of my time at the night market but I’d stay again.
Down an alley off the main road makes it a bit difficult to find first time but well lite up so not unsafe. The bathroom is very nice with a new full size tub and modern sink and toilet. Wifi is the best we have had at a hotel. The only thing missing is the room does not have a refrigerator. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is good as inside the wall with many restaurants nearby. We will stay here again when visiting Chiang Mai.
If you need hot water to shave, you have to get it from the shower. Cold water only sinks.
Beds are hard. No fridge in room. Not much space in room. No bedside table. No coffee/tea making facilities in room. You can make your own in Reception.
Hotel is down a side alley. Local cab driver could not find it. Wheel your own luggage. No lift.
Breakfast is located a 2 minute walk up the street.
Staff are good.
