This is great if you want to just escape and relax or for anyone interested in a more active getaway. You can go hiking on our private trail right into the Rainforest of the Carara National Park and discover small private waterfalls with natural swimming pools all to yourself, or take a waterfall tour, go fishing on a chartered boat, go on an excursion, surfing, zip-lining, or just relax and enjoy watching the parrots, hummingbirds, wildlife, and butterflies from your hammock on our large balcony.

The Carara National Park forms the backdrop for this small, countryside community. The Bijagual Waterfall, just 5 minutes away, is one of the many local waterfalls and the tallest in Costa Rica.

Because of Carara Nature Retreat’s location on the edge of the Carara National Park (the only transition forest in the Central Pacific where species of dry and humid forests converge) you will see a variety of diverse local animals, flora, and fauna. Carara is a worldwide known birdwatching destination where guests can see many birds including Hummingbirds, White-Fronted Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Parrots, Finches, other local birds up close and personal. And we are just 25 minutes from Jaco's touristy town & beaches. The drive to Carara Nature Retreat is beautiful with cows grazing and tropical birds flying around, you absolutely have to stop at some point and take in the breathtaking landscapes.

** You Will Need Awd/4wd to reach us, the roads to get there are winding and some of the way is not paved. Experience at driving mountain roads or hiring a driver is recommended.
