We drove from San Ignacio to Caracol through the Mountain Pine Resort. We did this on our own without a guide and would do it again. But this drive is not for the faint of heart, the road is a mix between rocky gravel and dirt. It is extremely bumpy for the entire 2.5 hours. We pushed our rental car to the limits. Caracol though was amazing and definitely worth the crazy drive. $5 (maybe $10) US entry fee, and they have restrooms and picnic tables there if you want to bring your own lunch.
Be prepared for a bumpy ride.
Long ride on a dirt road but was an excellent trip. We also stoped at a cave and some pools on the river so the day was long but we also got to see a lot.
Marvel at the awe-inspiring sight of huge stone palaces with a backdrop of Belize’s sweeping valleys and lush green countryside.
