We spent 3 wonderful weeks in The Hearts Delight Cottage. The cottage itself is so charming, it has a very special atmosphere. We had everything we needed and felt at home from the very first moment. The surrounding area is described as “area of outstanding beauty” and this desription is really true.
Katrina and her family are attentive hosts, friendly, open, welcoming and extremely quick in helping when we needed anything. Above all I was allowed to help Katrina feeding the lambs which was an extraordinary experience for me (we live in a big German city!).
The Black Robin Pub is a 20 minutes walk from the farm, it serves good food and has a friendly service.
We enjoyed very much hiking around the cottage and the country. For all guests who love walking as we do: Katrina and Roland provide maps for "short walks" in the wonderful adjoining private wood that last for 25, 35 or 40 min. Hikers will find many more information in the cottage, for example: Ordonance Survey Explorer maps 138 and 150, OS Landranger map 179, OS Pathfinder Guide "KENT Outstanding Circular Walks", Elham Valley Way Guidebook (Kent Environmental & Planning Agency), Kent Tearoom Walks by Michael Easterbrook (Country Side Books), 50 Gemy of East Kent (Amberley Publishing). The community "Elham Valley Walkers" developed walks around Barham, Kingston and Elham and published these on their website elhamvalleywalkers.co.uk.
Besides towns like Canterbury, Dover and Folkestone are near, the sea is not far away, there are castles and lovely gardens to enjoy.
Thanks to Katrina and her family, we are looking forward to meeting you again.
