  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. We loved our stay and felt right at home. Our host was great and checked on us several times to make sure everything was going well. The house was clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable. The neighborhood was quiet and very safe. It was nice to be such a short walk away from all the attractions we wanted to see. We highly recommend staying here.

Perfect location!

Beautiful house with all the amenities needed. Owner was very attentive and location was perfect. Easy walk to all historical sights, square, restaurants/bars, and grocery. Definitely read owner binder when you get there, lots of good information. Would definitely rent again.

We 4 retired ladies from the USA enjoyed our 12 night stay in this apartment. The location was great. We could easily walk to the main squares, the canals, the museums and good restaurants. We were in a quiet neighborhood. A grocery store was nearby. We appreciated having a washer and a dryer. Katrien was a gracious hostess and got us wonderful seats for the Procession of the Holy Blood, a parade held in May. Katrien promptly replied to text messages and helped us with taxi service. I recommend this comfortable apartment. We enjoyed our stay in beautiful Bruges and never ran out of things to do and places to go.

Family living in the heart of brugge

Exceeded our expectations. Comfortable beds!! Super clean apt!! Dark curtains so you could sleep Late!! Room for lounging on the first floor, Quiet neighborhood, everything we needed they thought of (shampoo, different colors towels so you knew whose towel was who, fridge with some beverages if wanted etc) We had a medical emergency and owners were very helpful helping us ... I can’t say enough about the vibe of Brugge !! great stay thanks!!

A great long weekend with friends

Our trip was a special trip to celebrate my friend's 50th who was visiting from Australia. Four ladies stayed for 3 nights. We had a wonderful time. The property is in a quiet neighbourhood however with easy walk into the city centre. .

Delightful Home

We chose this property so we could all be together rather then rent non descriptive hotel rooms. We enjoyed bringing pastry home for breakfast. Modern inside. Charming decor Owners were always available helpful and friendly.
