About this property

The Barnacle On Bucks Harbor

  • The Barnacle is nestled in tall pine trees just 30 feet from the beach. It sits up on a high cliff making it very protected and VERY private. It is so close to the water that you will love to sit on the huge deck and eavesdrop on the lobstermen negotiating price. Just a few minutes walk up the road is a sweet country store that offers organic veggies from local growers, homemade cheeses, gifts an a huge variety of wines. Quaint Bucks Harbor Yacht Club is also within walking distance.

Vacationing at The Barnacle is like stepping back in time. There is a sturdy stairway that leads down to a private beach. Enjoy spectacular sunbathing, swimming and views of the Harbor on pristine Eggemoggin Reach. The spacious lawn is the perfect location to host a lobster bake or intimate cocktail party.

The kitchen was updated in 2005 but the cottage-feel has been maintained. Huge windows display the beauty of the harbor, pine floors, Kraftmaid cabinets and exquisite vaulted ceilings. The entire cottage has been renovated back to its original 1945 charm. Every window offers a gorgeous view and the open floor plan allows sunlight to stream through. It is tastefully appointed throughout and a couch pulls out to a double bed for extra guests.

The view was amazing. The rental provided ample options to relax and take in the harbor views. Yet it felt very private. The cottage offered a rustic feel and the decor was charming. The heating units within the home were limited to the downstairs which left some cool mornings as we rolled out of bed, but worked fine given the fall temperatures.

4 Generation Vacation

We ended up having a family reunion with friends and family members joining us for meals and visits. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit and enjoy the amazing scenery. The only downsides were that the only bathroom was downstairs, which was a little tough for my 90 year-old dad, and when the heatwave hit, some of the upstairs rooms’ windows didn’t function very well. So it was pretty hot up there. Most everyone had gone home by then, and the living room stayed fine. The couch was comfy and there were lots of fans.So if you look at it as going “up ta camp” everyone agrees that it was just about perfect.
