## Emplacement
Located at an altitude of 1326 meters, at the confluence of five valleys, Briancon is the highest town in France. This city of art and history, fortified by Vauban in the eighteenth century, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Briancon has a remarkable set of military buildings, built between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries to improve the city's defense system. The tour includes the upper town, or citadel Vauban, the very heart of Briancon, dominated by the Castle Fort, and the surrounding fortifications of the Fort des Salettes, the Fort des 3 Têtes and the Fort du Randouillet. In winter, Briancon becomes a popular destination for ski lovers, as its ski area is part of the famous resort of Serre Chevalier.
