Water: Being conservative with water and conscientious of its use lays the groundwork for a great experience at the Au Train Island View Lodge. Although the Lodge sleeps up to 15 people comfortably, there is only ONE standard, 40 gallon hot water tank. Ideally, you will need to spread out your showers. This is not a hotel. It is an older home. In our experience, some groups have found the amount of hot water needed to be satisfactory. Other groups have felt like they are always running out of hot water and waiting for the tank to reheat, especially when running the dishwasher and all 3 showers at the same time.

Wood: Guests need to purchase their own wood for the indoor fire-place.

PLEASE NOTE:
Since this beautiful home is along the Lake Superior shoreline, the lake effect snow can often be intense. Approximately 2-4 times/year, the main highway, MI-28 is closed by the Michigan State Police due to the overwhelming snowfall. When the Michigan State Police (Negaunee Post No. 81) close the road (sometimes just for a few hours, other times overnight) there is a $100 ticket penalty if you drive around the barriers. Please do not drive around the barriers, regardless of what locals may say at the gas station. In those circumstances, our snow plow driver can not get to the side street or driveway leading to the Au Train Island View Lodge. Therefore, you will still be stuck about 0.5 of a mile from the home itself, once you get to the turn onto Sunset Road. We will let you know the moment we get a report the road is closed. Please use extra caution when driving in the winter.

Scenario 1:
IF the road is closed the day of your arrival, we will refund your rate for that one night . You will also be eligible to cancel the remainder of your stay without penalty, yet you must have the funds for any and all hotel fees. When processing a refund on a credit card, while we may apply the credit immediately, the bank often takes a couple days for the credit to appear on your account.

Scenario 2:
IF the road closes the last day of your stay, you will NOT be charged for the additional night rate. Just stay cozy and enjoy the bonus time together!

The cabins were spacious and clean. The groundskeeper was very helpful when we needed things. The property is beautiful, we would like to stay there again, but in the Fall. Being right on Lake Superior was amazing!

This was a fabulous location and worked well for us with our extended family with two separate living spaces and kitchens. My only complaints are a few maintenance issues with walkways with lose boards that were dangerous for my elderly parents and also the stairs down to the water end in tumbling down rock steps that made access to the water imposible for them.

Great views of Superior sunsets and excellent location to explore nearby waterfalls . The property was very comfortable and the property managers' communication was first class. Access to washer/dryer would make it even better.

My family and I had a great family trip to this cabin. The views of Lake Superior are fantastic! House was comfortable and clean. My only wish was that the house had a washing machine and dryer.

What a beautiful home and perfect spot waking up every morning to the view of Lake Superior. Not too far from town, just a quick 12min or so drive. Had everything we needed for a week stay. Was large enough for my whole family of 10 (we rented both sides). One recommendation- Hot Tub :)

Our getaway at this perfect hidden gem was amazing! We stayed with another family and our children had one side of the house to themselves and adults enjoyed their time on the second half of the house. Perfect for relaxing, getaways, large families and accomodations provided in the houses and by the owner/mgmt company were everything we needed. Andrew and Joan were wonderful answering all of our questions and even though we were there during holidays their responses were very quick, professional and sincere. We hope to visit again.

We had 4 couples stay here. The house is very private and the location on the water is great. Awesome views and sunsets. It's hard to get down to the water but the water is so cold it's not really for swimming anyway. At least not right now.

During covid Christmas we were trying to decide on safe and fun place for our family of 10 to travel to from Ohio and Wisconsin This location checked off all our boxes Lots of room for all with breathtaking views of Lake Superior Lodge was well stocked and clean. Location perfect to see pictured rock and all the amazing scenery This was a great trip to enjoy nature and feel safe with everyone’s horrors of 2020 🎉

We were an extended family of 12 that enjoyed this property immensely. The house is closer to the water than it appears! The swimming was excellent as were the sunset views. The house itself was an excellent set up with plenty of beds for everyone and space to relax. The main kitchen has everything you need but we also made good use of the second kitchen especially the second refrigerator. The property is located close to many fun hikes and fun things to do. Highly recommend!

This was a great cabin to get together for a quick winter getaway. Everything was as described and the cabin was great for watching the winter storm come across Lake Superior. Unfortunately part of our family was not able to make it due to the Corona Virus and we had to cut our vacation short. The managers of the property were very understanding and great to work with. Everything was clean and we will definitely look into renting this property again when we can all make it. Thanks for sharing this property with us!

The home has basically anything that you would need. There were lots of board games, puzzles, and books to read. There is a big kitchen on one side and a smaller kitchen on the other. This was great being able to use one fridge just strictly for food, and the other strictly for drinks. The big kitchen had basically everything that you could imagine you would need. It was great for entertaining everyone all weekend. The deck is huge and it has a nice sized propane grill. If you do wind up needing something, the store just down the road in Au Train is a great little convenience store with basically everything. There is also a full grocery store in Munising.

At first glance the house is beautiful. Once inside though it was a different story. We were greeted with mouse droppings on almost every available surface. Sticky mess on the table. The glasses in the cabinets had food debris all over them. Also all the cleaning supplies were locked up. The only cleaning items we had access to was brooms, dish soap and a tiny vacuum. We had to leave and buy cleaning supplies from the store in Munising. One of the chairs was broken and propped up on a roof support beam. Broken electrical outlet that my 2 year old could fit his finger into. No air conditioning, which would be fine if all the windows opened to let in the lake breeze. I would say about only 40% of the windows worked. Others were completely rotted out of the frame or the screens were bent and completely useless. Wooden walkway to front porch and down to the beach had loose boards. Now, when we first arrived and saw the state of the rental, we called to see if something could be done. We were told they would contact the person in charge and get back to us. We waited an hour and didn’t get a call back. When we called back a second time we were told the person to clean the house was an hour away. We were offered a small refund or have the person come clean. I have never experienced a rental like this and we rent EVERY YEAR.
