This studio condo was perfect for my husband, 19-year-old son and me. We went to Mt. Alyeska to snowboard and we got it. In spades. First of all, this was our first trip to Alaska and it was breathtaking. We've been to a few other well-known ski/snowboard destinations (Chamonix, Banff, Summit County) and are all in agreement that this was the best.
With regard to the condo itself, it is located just steps from the slopes. It's an easy, albeit uphill, walk to the first chair. Also can get to dining options easily, but there's a kitchen with all of the basic amenities including a dishwasher and full-sized fridge, so we made most of our breakfasts and lunches at home. Additionally, there were a lot of cozy details--blankets, throws, floor pillows--that made our stay very comfortable. A few caveats:
1. On weekends, there were a lot of families with very small children who like to run up and down the hallways-loudly. In all fairness, this ended before we wanted to go to sleep so really wasn't a problem.
2. Bring yak traks. The parking lots and common areas are very well maintained, but not salted (this seems to be the case for the entire region) making it difficult to get around, at least for us non-residents. The yak traks did the trick, though.
3. There is one small grocery store in town, but nothing else...no drug store or convenience store. My husband forgot contact solution so we ended up going all the way back to Anchorage to get it.
Bottom line: if you're on the fence about this place, hop off on the side of going. You won't be disappointed.
