Weekend Getaway
We spent 3 nights at Howie’s Retreat. He is a marvellous host. Warm, welcoming and personable. The unit itself is spacious, comfortable and clean. There is not a single thing that Howie has not provided for your comfort. If it isn’t there, you don’t need it. If anything isn’t right, he will go out of his way to fix it in a timely manner. Nothing is too much trouble. The decor is lovely too. A real home away from home. A perfect little nest for when you are not out exploring the area. Great place, great guy!

Perfect place to recharge and relax!
Staying a Howie's place was a pleasure he's a superb host and I'm sad I didn't get to spend more time chatting with him! We definitely be coming back again! The basement apartment is beautifully decorated with original artworks and has a plethora of useful and thoughtful amenities. You can really tell Howie cares for his guests in a proactive and caring way. One exceptional example of this was the small library of books which was greatly appreciated. The apartment is really close to the main road which I thought might be an issue but you cannot hear it at all and proved to be really convenient for travelling around all of Vancouver. It's a super easy drive to downtown but feels much safer and relaxed. It's also only a few dollar's taxi ride to the seabus to downtown so if you're visiting Van and want to see the sights this is a really great option. Overall excellent experiences highly recommend!

Perfect Start to our Vancouver Life
We stayed in Howie's lovely flat for our first stay upon moving to Vancouver. We loved it and couldn't recommend enough. We loved it so much we we ended up staying for longer than planned! Howie & family are super friendly, the flat was perfectly kitted out including a ready to go kitchen and a desk set up - with one of us working remotely from the flat, that was ideal and the wifi was super quick! Safeway's opposite makes it super easy to pick up supplies and great access to the highway to get anywhere in Vancouver or even straight up to Whistler. Would highly recommend for anyone looking!

Great location/ great host
My partner and I stayed here for a few days while visiting family in N. Vancouver, going to Lynn Canyon and driving to Whistler for a day - so great location for that, right off the freeway, but beautifully wooded property, quiet dead end street. Owner had me park next to his, easy for loading unloading. Fully furnished with top everything. One flight of stairs down but not a problem for us. Would highly recommend

We visited this property in August so the proximity to ski hills was not the attracting factor. However, being in North Vancouver near the Shipping yards for ferry to downtown as well as on bus routes to nearby Stanley Park, Capilano bridge was a huge bonus. The suite was well stocked with every item a guest could possible need and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful.

2023 Mother-Daughter Vancouver Trip
Our daughter and I stayed here for our visit to Vancouver. It was very conveniently located for the places we wanted to go and things we wanted to see and do. Howie’s apartment was everything it was advertised to be. The kitchen is well equipped with items you need to prepare meals if you want to cook. The washer and dryer came in handy! The bed was very comfortable. The shower was great! And our host was very helpful and courteous. I would not hesitate to stay there again. The neighborhood was beautiful and quiet with grocery stores and some very good restaurants close by. ❤️

Home away from home
This is a well appointed suite with friendly and accommodating hosts. There is a set of stairs down to the suite, and being in the basement, it is a bit dark with low water pressure, but it is very clean and has everything you need to be comfortable in your stay. I would recommend this suite, and I would rent it again. Thank you!

Howie provides an exceptional place to stay. It was the cleanest VRBO that we have stayed. It had everything we needed to make our own meals. Located close to many opportunities to escape into nature but also a very short drive to shops, restaurants, and businesses. We would absolutely choose to stay here again.

Home from away
It would be impossible to ask for more, everything was perfect from the pencil sharpener to magnifying mirror. Cutlery and crockery were plentiful with no waiting to fill the DW. Loved the Pears soap. Driving into the city was very easy but beware, there is no free parking in Vancouver and there is an absence of signs and meters. It's called visitor entrapment by insisting on digital payment. The wee village of Edgemont is close and well worth a visit. It's also the last bastion of unrestricted parking. The host was most helpful with any queries. All in all a very comfortable home from away for 4 days in Beautiful British Columbia.

Location has great walking or public transport access to most amenities and many attractions. The suite was very clean, quiet and is represented accurately by the photos on VRBO. A tree was set up during the holiday season to enjoy, a very generous holiday gesture! We highly recommend this VRBO.

Just GREAT!
There are a lot of things that were nice about the property. We were welcomed in by Howie and he showed us around. We parked in the driveway during the big snow week, and Howie did his best to keep the walks and areas clear for us. We even got a ride to and from the Transit station to take the boat to downtown for a hockey game. There was just about every appliance you could ask for and the place was very clean. It was nice having a washer and dryer. We always bring soap and dryer sheets to do a load while we are on the road to save on packing. Fresh coffee beans and a grinder was also a nice touch. There are plenty of dishes, cups, silverware available as well. The weather was not great, so we spent a lot of time at the rental. We felt at home. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Each 7 light switch throughout the entire suite has dimmer switches, these switches are all set to dim the day of guest arrival, at which time they may adjust to suit their different needs for light in each room. Also the 4 large window slatted blinds may be either adjusted open or raised for daylight.

The Perfect Getaway
Howie is such an incredible host with a wonderful home. His home is super spacious and has everything you'll ever need. The kitchen is my favorite part! I've stayed at many places with my boyfriend and this has been one of the absolute best. The location is perfect- it's a close drive to so many places that are a must-see, such as the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Howie is super friendly, understanding and quick to respond. My boyfriend and I are so glad we booked his home for our little vacation, we highly recommend it!

Fantastic rental
The location of the rental was great - right beside the highway in a lovely cul-de-sac that was really quiet. Howie was an excellent host. He met us at the property to give us the keys, show us around the rental, and relay any important info. The rental itself was amazing - incredibly clean, excellent repair, and great furniture/appliances. It felt like a little home away from home. If you're looking for somewhere to stay, I highly recommend it!

Imagine you have a relative who has done well for themselves and you’re staying in their basement. All the amenities are first class from the linens to the glassware. It’s spacious and a lot of thought has been put into making it cozy and functional. Howie met me out front and we had a nice handshake and a chat before keys were exchanged. Once inside, it’s posh and private. Nice dining and TV areas. Writing desk and some great books for fictionphiles. Comfy bed. Some things to know, and they’re not deal breakers for me (in fact, I intend to return during ski season), but… - It’s a basement. If you’re hoping for a view or you’re claustrophobic there could be issues. There are windows for ventilation and the backyard you enter from is lovely. Flight of stairs that has anti-slip, but not suitable for those with mobility issues. - There is a robust and vibrant family above you and the footsteps begin early. If you’re looking for monastic silence keep searching. - B.C. is a 420-friendly province. The occasional herbal essence wafted by now and then. Not sure of the origins and it doesn’t bother me, but if you’re prudish or hypersensitive, a hotel might be a better option. Overall, one of the more unique and interesting home-hosting spaces I’ve stayed in. And! It was about $100 less than any of the hotel options I was looking at. Cheers.

Perfect comfortable stay
Everything was perfect for all our needs on our getaway. Rental was extremely well equipped, location was convenient to everything. Hop skip and a jump across the highway to Starbucks, a bakery, Safeway, restaurants and gas station. Bed was super comfy, very quiet area to get some good sleep was the bonus! Restful Oasis
This beautifully appointed suite has everything you need for a lovely stay. It is tastefully and artistically decorated with your every need anticipated. The kitchen was more than fully equipped, a full sized washer & dryer just off the kitchen, a lovely dining room table- we had Family over for dinner, a beautiful bathroom with a lovely tub & shower and a very comfortable bed. We were between homes and exhausted from getting our house ready for sale. It was a heavenly respite before we had to unpack at our new home. Howie was great, even letting us store some of our things in his garage. We enjoyed his company and his great sense of humour. We will definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay on the North Shore

Great Host & Superb Facility
Howie is a great host(!) - not only for offering this well kept home away-from-home but also for attending the tenant’s extra needs! Checking in is the easiest among the hotels and homeaways I have been to (and I spend over two months a year traveling away from home). The place is very clean and spacious with everything one needs including a work desk, living area with large screen satellite dish TV, large dining table, full kitchen (ton’s cabinets and glassware/chinaware, divided sinks, range top, oven, turn-table microwave, coffee grinder/french coffee maker, powerful fruit/veggie juicer/processor, dishwasher, and a full-family three-door refrigerator/freezer), and even a room with cloth washer & dryer! There are plenty HomeAway homes, but Howie’s belongs to the top of the list.
