Fantastic
Mare House was great. It was clean and inviting. The neighborhood was quiet and the pond was stocked with fish! We will definitely stay here again. There were 7 of us total and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Great family getaway
We had such a wonderful time this weekend.at the rental. It was perfect for two families for four under five. Great layout. Tons of indoor and great outdoor space. We had some spectacular sunrises! The beds were top tier! Great water pressure and loves the heaters in the bathroom. We would definitely stay again! This is our second stay in a hawksbill cabin.

Perfect honeymoon!
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. It was clean, comfortable, and surrounded by beautiful scenery! About 15mins give or take from the Luray Caverns. Less than 5mins from a lovely little restaurant called the Hawksbill diner. Our stay was so peaceful and everything we dreamed of getting a break from home! 10/10 recommend and would love to stay here again in the future!

Weekend away.
Absolutely gorgeous house! Beautiful inside and out. We spent a long weekend here while hiking Shenandoah NP. House was very comfortable and hot tub was a great treat after a day of hiking the mountains. Only downfall was spotty wifi (at best). It was not really an issue so we did not contact the hosts. Great location for a quiet getaway.

The Mare House/Cabin
What a great mini vacation!!! The Mare Cabin was absolutely wonderful. My sweetheart and I had a great time. The owner stopped by to chat and that just put a personal touch in making us feel welcome. It was nice to check into a clean well kept cabin. I wish that the fireplace would have worked in the Master bedroom for a more romantic appeal, but still a great place to stay. We will go back to stay at one of the Cabins on the hill because the view is breath taking.

Beautiful Location
Overall the property is great. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the property. Plenty of room for two couples. Beautiful area. The cons were the wifi is sporadic and did not work well in the bedrooms. The mattress in the master bedroom off the living room sinks to the middle and needs to be replaced. The bathroom in the hallway has an issue with flushing. Again - overall a great place.

Weekend Getaway
This cabin was a perfect setup for 2 families to have a nice relaxing weekend. 3 full bathrooms allowed everyone to have their privacy. Also the multiple entrance ways made it nice, with private deck areas all around. Of course the hot tub was the icing on the cake. Close drives to the Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive. I would recommend it!

Beautiful place, location is lackluster
Page county is beautiful and the home is charming and exactly as described, but sadly there isn’t much to do as far as restaurants or shopping. You have to drive about 30 minutes to find anything worthwhile.

Great location, great cabin
First time in Shenandoah area in years and we searched for some time looking for the right cabin in the right location. This place was great! Easy check-in and super clean cabin with good accommodations. The cabin itself sits on the Hawksbill retreat property and there are a few cabins/lodges on the property, most of which seemed to be occupied (though I think I only saw a few cars come and go a handful of people every now and then). Easy drive to Luray and grocery store a few miles away. Hot tub was nice and clean. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet stay in the region.

Family Getaway
The Mare House was a great place to spend time and relax. The cabin and the surrounding property are in excellent condition. With hiking in the Shenandoah National Park, cavern tours and several small towns nearby there are plenty of things to see and explore.

Absolutely amazing
Truly a place to unwind and relax. Surrounded by Exquisite scenery on all sides. The pictures of the cabins and location do not do it justice. Something one must see and experience for themselves. Property manager and owner extremely friendly and very courteous. Plan on making this my new summer retreat.

My family and I had a great week long stay. It was great for all ages . We had 3 kids ranging from 1 to 9. The location is close to a lot of family friendly places. We thought the house was a little more private then it was but we had no issues. There wasn’t a bunch of people at the other cabins .

Very nice weekend stay
Very nice and clean house. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were very spacious. We couldn’t find an exterior light near the hot tub, but it ended up making stargazing in the hot tub a great experience! The only complaint we had was that two of the fireplaces didn’t work, including the living room one, which would have been nice at night. Everything else was wonderful. The lease agreement process is much more strict than any other other's I have seen, but we didn’t have a problem.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. It was everything the reviews said it was. Only two things to note. The fireplace in one bedroom didn’t work. I had read the same note in the review in February and March, I would think they would have fixed this by September. 2) the price though extremely lovely and beautiful high end items - I thought the price was a bit high for two days and 4 ppl. Cleanliness, the experience and the beauty made my birthday one to remember.

Great Escape!
The property was very clean. A little too clean; the strong scent of pine sol took 24 hours to go away. House had everything the add showed. Actually larger than I thought. Fire pit and hot tub were great. From feeling like we had to sign our life away with the rental agreement, I somewhat thought going in we may be bothered a bit by staff/owners; watched per say. That wasn’t the case. I saw a few people mowing and received a friendly wave and that was it. We felt like we had the entire grounds to ourselves. Few very small things. Master shower was not working properly; barely any water pressure. Shower heads probably need a replacement - they were a tad nasty. A few pans in the kitchen probably need a little updating as well. Baking sheets were pretty used. Just as a FYI...the manual can opener in drawer is broken. The fire pit on a clear night was amazing. We brought a blanket and laid down with the fire going and stargazing; it was amazing. Hot Tub was clean and put to use every night. House stayed cold at night, so fireplaces in the bedrooms were a very nice touch. Bedrooms were spacious, plenty of room in the kitchen. I would recommend this property for sure. Was a great 3 night get away with friends. 30 minute drive to hiking in Shenandoah National Park, local restaurants and grocery 10 minutes away and a wine trail not too far as well. Thank you Hawksbill Retreat!

Nice stay at Mare House. Clean, quiet and relaxing. Hiked in Shenandoah River State Park and Shenandoah NP. About 30 minutes to both. Easy, comfortable stay - much needed for these times.

Not a good experience
Graduation was cancelled and we couldn't cancel our rental though because the owner does not accept cancellations regardless of a global pandemic but we were able to reschedule however the correspondence by the homeowner was quite severe and harsh in tone. After a 4 hour drive we arrived at 3:30 we knew check-in wasn't until 4 and were fine with that but we did ask if we could use 1 of the 3 bathrooms and were told no because of covid and it had to be cleaned. And so we said we'll just stay outside on the deck and proceeded to unload the car into a corner out of the way and we were going to sit on the other side of the deck again out of the way when the owner came back outside and said we had to leave the premises. So we just walked across the street to the pond. At 3:45 p.m. owners husband came over said house was done, they had a late check-out, running behind on cleaning, etc. nice guy trying to smooth things over but it was too late. I'd love to tell you how great the cabin was but why when there are plenty of great cabins out there and managed by nicer people.

Perfect Girls Mountain Getaway
This cabin was so ideal for a reunion with college girlfriends! It was pristinely cleaned, had very comfortable beds, and plenty of space to spread out. The deck was an ideal spot to hang out with beautiful Mountain View’s! It was an unbelievably relaxing vacation and would recommend it to anyone looking for some peace and quiet. Be sure to pack all of your spices, cooking spray, tupperware/ziplocks, etc because that’s the only thing this house doesn’t have.

Lovely cabin in a nice setting. Loved the hot tub & fire pit. Enjoyed many evenings watching the lit fountain in the private fishing pond and the sound of very happy frogs. You will enjoy this property.Worth the drive as a base camp for exploring Shenandoah NP.

Beautiful clean home close to Luray!
We booked this house on a spur of the moment family trip. Great place with large bedrooms and a fireplace in every bedroom, including the living room. Nice big kitchen and family dining space, big screen tvs in every room. Our kids enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and running around outside. Hot tub was large and clean. One of the fireplaces is not working in the back bedroom, but we let the owners know. :) We'll be back!

Charming, Rustic, Sparkling Clean, A little slice of heaven nestled right here in the mountains!
We stayed here with our two sons, just turned 8 and 9 this week, for a weekend birthday getaway. Each were allowed to bring one friend and this cabin fit the six of us perfectly. We all had our own space, our own bathrooms and never once felt cramped. The boys were on one end and my husband and I had privacy on the other. The master bedroom is AMAZING, fully equipped with the nicest soaking, corner tub I’ve ever experienced. I honestly never wanted to leave.... tub, fireplace, TV remote or a good book, and a glass of Prosecco ..... what else could a Mama want after the boys have fallen asleep? Every single thing was just as described. The beds were incredibly comfortable, best nights sleep I’ve had in weeks. The cabin was very clean, my OCD self was so grateful for that. The entire atmosphere felt very safe and just like being at home. The hot tub.... we did let the boys experience that one night.... they LOVED IT!!! I’m hesitant on hot tubs, but it was so clean!!!! I could say so much about the Mare House, but honestly.... every single thing about it was simply top notch. Comfy couches ( I NEED THAT LEATHER COUCH!) , nice, clean linens, Fireplaces in every bedroom, etc. Our first morning, we awoke to a beautiful dusting of snow, and it was honestly the most gorgeous view. Hawksbill Retreat, THANK YOU.... for an amazing weekend getaway!!! We loved the Mare House, and definitely know where to come back to for future trips!!! ~The Monahans

A wonderful time
We had a wonderful time at Hawksbill Mare House. The cabin is in such a perfect little spot. We loved having s’mores every night and walking across the little creek. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and inside by the fire. Hopefully we will have a chance to return soon.

Quiet, charming and close to attractions
We took a long weekend to see the caverns, skyline drive and have some family time. It was about 15 minutes to Luray caverns, Food Lion is 5 minutes away. The cabin was very nice, spacious and clean. It was cold the weekend so we didn't use the pond, but it was nice sized and pretty. The property was beautiful. The cabin was perfect and nicely decorated with large rooms and nice large decks. We enjoyed the fire pit and some family time along with some tourist attractions. Had a nice selection of dishes and board games. Beds and furniture are comfortable. If you have little ones you may wanna bring some DVDs for them, as there are not many tv show options for them on the satellite tv. Consider an extra pillow if you like to sleep with more than the 1 per person provided. The linens were provided, which was nice and we had plenty of towels. The wifi was not strong in half of the cabin. Very comfortable with the 7 people we had and not crammed. Would definitely recommend and go back. We are all very happy and would return. We didn't use the hot tub but did peek in and it was very clean.
