First, this hotel was in a great location, only a few blocks from the Plaza Grande, which is the very center of the downtown area. You'd really be hard pressed to find a better location than the Gamma for a similar room rate. It is literally within walking distance from pretty much everything!
The hotel is very well kept. The rooms are spacious and superbly clean! I've been to much more expensive hotels the world over, and very few have I seen that were kept this clean--I'd really like to commend the chamber staff for a superb job!
The front desk staff was super nice and attentive. In addition, the breakfast in the restaurant area was really good. We thought it was much better to order from the menu than from the buffet to tell you the truth. It may have been a bit pricier but the quality of our meals was much better.
The free self-parking was a bit of challenge though because the underground lot is tight and awkward. You'd be better off handing your car keys (fob?) to the valet--it was actually quite convenient.
All in all, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who's looking to stay in Merida for a few days, whether for pleasure or business. You will not be disappointed!
On a side note, my wife and I were greatly, greatly impressed by the beauty of the city of Merida--and the candor of its people! It's one of those best kept secrets of Mexican tourism, especially since both Cancun and Cozumel are only a few hours away, but it's worth visiting, believe me.
