It takes about an hour to reach Ohara by no.17 bus from Kyoto Station, then 20 minute walk from the Ohara bus stop to the ryokan, it would be a pleasure walk if you don't bring large luggages. The ryokan is in a village, small but clean. Guests need to share bathroom, and even toilets. There is only one toilet for men, and one for women each floor and guests have to walk along staircases outdoor to access to annex building where bathroom and hot spring are.
If you don't mind the above, it is relaxing to stay there one day or two to enjoy hot spring, countryside scenery, flowers, valleys, farmers working on theirs farms, especially the colourful autumn leaves in Jakko-in Temple and Sanzenin Temple. A cup of coffee and a French toast will be the highlight of the day in a nearby coffee shop called "Kirin" where decorated with lots of giraffe stuffs, their food are more than I expect.
