I like how easily manageable this space is for one or two people. My favorite feature is the cherry wood flooring, which gives the space a pervasive warm and homey vibe. The inside of the unit feels like a haven in this very urban environment. You can retreat to a private, cozy space when you like, but have the full Austin experience at your doorstep. And if you want to relax at home but soak in the sun, you will definitely enjoy the pool! Alternatively, take a walk around the neighborhood, which is full of beautifully designed homes on peaceful streets lined with Austin's characteristic live oak trees. You'll quickly feel at home in this down-to-earth, fun-loving neighborhood.

The condo is all yours! You'll also have access to all the condo community amenities, including two laundry facilities, a well-equipped gym, an outdoor pool, and a free, reserved, covered parking space.

Neighborhood:

It's hard to overstate the value of this location. Quintessentially Austin, South Congress was the first neighborhood to bring international attention to the city. It's fun, open, inviting, and of course there's plenty of good food and music. Austin's signature culture is on display here every day: energetic and creative social activity in a free, relaxed atmosphere.

PUBLIC BUS

CapMetro is the region's bus service. You can buy virtual tickets on their app.

Route 801 is a high-frequency route on South Congress. There are no fixed pickup/dropoff times; instead, you can expect a bus every 15-20 minutes. The closest place to catch this route is a few blocks north (downhill, toward downtown), at South Congress and Elizabeth St., at the stop named "Soco." Service operates Mon-Wed 5:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., Thurs/Fri 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., Saturday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., and Sunday 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Route 1 is a regular north/south route on South Congress. You can use any bus stop (as long as you let the driver know) and there is a fixed timetable: On weekdays, you can catch Route 1 going downtown from the stop across the street one block north of the apartment (SoCo/Mary St) starting around 5:00 a.m., and you can get dropped off at the stop directly outside the apartment as late as 12:40 a.m. On Saturdays, those times would be 5:30 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. On Sundays, it's 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.

RIDESHARE

Uber and Lyft are great ways to get around town. You can select from a variety of trip types and split the fare as a group. Austin is unique in having the only nonprofit rideshare company in the country. It's called Ride Austin, and their apps are, perhaps surprisingly, very high quality. Whereas Uber and Lyft take a 25-30% cut from the fare you pay, with Ride Austin 100% of the fare goes to the driver, and you can "round up" your fare as a donation to a local charity.

Besides the cultural richness of the neighborhood, a quick look on the public transit authority (CapMetro) website will show you that transit access along the South Congress corridor is the best in the city. If you work downtown and take the bus, your door-to-door commute will be less than 20 minutes (I know from experience). As a big tourist hub, this neighborhood also benefits from access to those love-them-or-hate-them "dockless transport" options -- electric scooters and bikes from Bird, Lime, Lyft, Jump, and several other companies!
