This is a lovely hotel with friendly staff and beautiful facilities. Walkable to the main street. The only concern was no lift to second floor, lifting luggage up and down isn't easy especially when we have young children as well.

Hotel is just off the main road. The staff were very nice to me even though I don't speak Japanese. I ended up adding breakfast to my stay and chose the Japanese breakfast option which was unique, fun, and tasty. When I checked out they offered me a ride to the train station in a shuttle and it was much better than walking. The hotel seems a bit older which gives it some charm, adds to the feeling that you are in a mountain town getaway. The main shopping area is about a 10 min walk, the pond is about a 10 min walk and the train station is about a 15 min walk. There are many bar and restaurant choices in the area, and the hotel itself has two restaurants.

Comfortable!
So comfortable, cozy and clean in the room. Dinner was beautiful and great. Nice and comfortable hospitality by staff. Will re-visit at next time:)

Great for our young family!
We were looking for a relaxing family get-away to escape the heat of Tokyo in August, and that's exactly what we got. Hotel Otowa no Mori is beautiful, is very conveniently located (while also being quiet and a bit removed from the crowds), and the staff was so helpful in arranging whatever we needed (taxis, dinner reservations, etc.).

European-feel Hotel in Kyu Karuizawa
Hotel is a short distance (about 10-15min walk) from the station, and in a pretty quiet part of Karuizawa mid-point between the station and the Kyu Karuizawa shopping. The hotel has two stories and no lift, but the staff were very helpful in getting our luggage to the second floor, and with most queries in general. Room is of a decent size for the area, and the hotel in general is very charming and furnished with a classic European feel. Everything was clean and comfortable, would recommend!

Very Cute Hotel In Great Location
To quote my friend as we were pulling into the hotel, "This is so f**king cute!" It was cute indeed. Hotel staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The rooms were comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel. The main downtown area of Karuizawa can be reached by a short 10 minute walk.

Excellent customer service. Only negative is the age of the hotel. It is old. With old age, some of the fixtures and furnishings appeared to need some refreshment. Overall, a good hotel! We had a good time staying there for 2 nights. I would recommend this hotel.

Traditional Japanese hotel
Very traditional Japanese type hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the service excellent. Location is also excellent; in the woods and only a short walk to Karuizawa town. The rooms however, though clean and well-maintained, are quite dated. I think this hotel caters to the older Japanese set, we noticed the nice Japanese toiletries and the brand name china in the room.

We have enjoyed the stay there. The location, service and everything about this hotel. There are no elevators however stuff delivered our luggage before we checked in.

Friendly, helpful, and convenient hotel.
Very clean. Friendly staff. They were able to recommend a good hot springs nearby and even brought the shuttle bus schedule to the room!

旧軽井沢の雰囲気を満喫できる昔と変わらない素晴らしいホテル。 朝食も大変美味しかった。フレンチトーストはここでしか食べられない特筆すべき朝食メニュー。東山魁夷や有名画家の絵画もそこかしこに飾られ、このホテルの重厚さを感じた。

Immersing in Showa retro atmosphere
The hotel is conveniently located at city center with restaurants and shops nearby. The room is spacious, tidy and clean. The building itself is in old Japan western style. It is an excellent choice to immerse myself in the Showa retro atmosphere.

家内が冷たい食材、スープを食べれないことをレストランでお話しすると温かいものをすぐに準備してくれ、さらに2日目は家内のために冷たいお料理を温かいものに変えた食事を予め準備してくれており、それをメニューとして印刷物まで準備してくれました。大変感謝しております。

クラッシックな建物でしたが、老舗のホテルらしく、従業員の方の心配りが最高でした。朝食がバイキングではないことも、落ち着いて食事ができてよかったです。 お部屋の水回しだけ、バス・トイレ別など今風になるとよいなぁと思いました。
