Shibu Onsen Sakaeya
3.0 star property
9.8 out of 10, Exceptional, (45)
"This was our first time in a Ryokan! And we loved it!! We enjoyed wearing the Kimonos provided and having a multi course dinner! They were also able to provide vegetarian options for dinner as well. The onsen at the hotel was much larger and nicer than the free ones outside the hotel. There is a toilet in the room but no shower, so you have to use the public bath to shower."

"This property was as traditional as it gets. Two Onsens to bath in. Each have separate times for men and women. Provide multicourse dinner that was as traditional as you can get. The breakfast was multiple items and also a classic meal. Very good. Room didn’t have a view but it had traditional tea set up along with kimonos to wear and traditional bedding. We were there only one night so it wasn’t a big deal to not have a view. Staff was very kind and tried to be of help. We got a shuttle ride up...

Chalet Shiga
3.0 star property
9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (17)
"We loved our stay at chalet Shiga. Skiing was fantastic. The people at the chalet treated us very well, lovely authentic japenese food and setting. The location is perfect, at the bottom of ichinose. We went at the start of spring season, which did mean some of the slopes were closed, and the buses were limited. Something to be aware of. But, there was still plenty of fluffy white stuff, lifts and slopes. We didn't need to go see the snow monkeys - they came to see us 😀"

"Great fun hotel. The Captain who owns the place is an 80 year old Japanese Olympic ski racer and full of interesting stories and enthusiasm for skiing and the mountains. His son Ken is also a good and enthusiastic skier. Everyone speaks great english. Dinner was excellent and included the best fried chicken my 12 year old son has EVER had. Breakfast good too. There is a pleasant bar on site open until 10 pm. The hotel is genuine ski in ski out and about 15s ski to the lift. My kids borrowed...

Hotel Housei
3.0 star property

"Really enjoyed my 6-night stay here. It really is a traditional Japanese hotel and experience and loved the friendly and helpful staff, and the location is just a short 10 min scenic stroll across the river to the bus/train station. Didnt know what to expect but the Japanese style tatami rooms were cosy and comfy, and the outdoor onsen was just what was needed after a day on the ski slopes. The half-board option is a must if you love Japanese food and each night was like a little banquet with...
