"This is a beautiful resort and the onsens were amazing, quiet, relaxing, rooms were lovely. The kasieki meal was superb, breakfast had 100 choices. Only complaint os coffee at night had coffee grounds in it. i recommend a two night stay so you may visit both baths. The pajama wear and takata wear were so awesome to wear all over the resort and to dinner! What fun. No racial prejudice felt at this resort. Also a great location to catch the cable car to the ropeway which is a must do! Take the romance car back to tokyo very easy! Try to see Mt Fuji at the lake ferry just breath taking!,"

"We had two nights in this classic old ryokan. It is one of the oldest in Gora with a long history, and the place exudes history and classic Japanese history. The staff was superb, and the food was fantastic. The onsens were relaxing. The ryokan has a large private forest garden and depending on the route taken can be seen in 13 mins or an hour. It was amazing. We woukd definately stay again, and what appealed to us was the classic old school nature of the place, with plenty of aged patina to the property. Despite its age it is well maintained. "

"Great location, nice view of fuji-san, nice garden and trail at the back, nice breakfast with a lot of choice. The fact the rooms had some older furniture was fine since it was according to price. Easier control of hot water in the shower would be better."

"The staff, grounds, and food were all superb. We booked the Open Air Big Stone Bath room type so we had a private hot springs bath in our onsen. It was amazing to get in whenever we wanted, but it may be unnecessary depending on your budget since their public (hotel guests only) open air baths are so spectacular. Also, if you don’t book a room with a private bath, you can reserve a time slot for a private one on the hotel grounds. The time slots will give you access to a private bath, steam spa and bathroom for 40 minutes. We did this for the experience and it was a beautiful and relaxing private bath with forest vegetation to look at. There is a downside to the Gora Kadan but it is still 5 stars for me. I mention it next because I feel it is worth noting. When I first arrived I heard some traffic noise from vehicles and the mountain railway from our room. I was initially discouraged by this but the experience at the hotel that followed muted my disappointment. If I knew about this beforehand, I may not have booked but that would have been a mistake and an amazing experience missed. You may be able avoid the noise if you book one of their higher end rooms. I’m not sure. Absolutely make sure you book a room with in room meals though. I believe at least one of the annex rooms does not have in room meals. At this price point, I often do not feel like we got our moneys worth from our accommodation but with the Gora Kadan we absolutely did. "

"We arrived to Hyatt regency hakone and were immediately escorted in and were told they were waiting for us. From that moment on, it was nothing but first class treatment from the entire staff. It was an incredible experience and the staff experience alone should make people run here in droves!! It sadly rained (4.5 inches in one day alone) while we were there but the staff was always helpful with information, alternative advice, and wonderful smiles. Would definitely recommend as they went above and beyond. "

"We were in the Hydrangea room downstairs, with its pretty screens and a private balcony, and plenty of space. The futon weren't as thick as some other places, but we had spares, so we gave ourselves another layer. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast, with attentive service. Check-in was great, and we enjoyed the hot lemon drink served on arrival. This ryokan has a choice of onsen, and we opted for the private room, which was lovely and relaxing. It was easy to get here by bus, but only a short walk to the Cable Car, so we were ideally placed for exploring everything we wanted to see in the Hakone area."

"Excellent customer service, good food, nice French and Japanese meals provided daily during stay. Hotel is dated and need some facelift. Love the 3 on-site Onsens, saw an amazing sunrise on last day at hotel. Would come back to Hotel New Akao if going to Atami again. "
