What you can expect

  • Explore an incredible underground world as you investigate the cathedrals, carvings, and passageways in the Wielczka Salt Mine. Learn about the mine's history, traverse its winding pathways, and stand in awe of its massive columns and open rooms, some more than 1,000 feet (305 m) below ground.

Descend into the depths of the salt mine, which feels like entering a vast underground city, complete with huge caverns and underground lakes. Visit chapels illuminated in dramatic and colorful lights, and learn about St. Kinga, the patron saint of miners.

Chat about the mine's history along the 1.5-mile (2.5-km) walking route, and feel free to ask questions of your guide along the way. From glittering chandeliers suspended from towering ceilings to intricate sculptures and religious carvings, there's always something new to discover around the next bend of this subterranean wonder.
