Description

Combining authentic Maori culture and Rotorua’s geothermal activity, Whakarewarewa – The Living Maori Village is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most unique attractions.

Situated on the edge of Rotorua city, Whakarewarewa, the home of the Tuhourangi-Ngati Wahiao people, offers authentic and memorable Maori cultural experience, as well as geothermal wonders.

Admission to our village includes a guided tour, Maori cultural performance concert and access to our geothermal nature trails.

Through our guided tour you can glean wonderful insights into Maori culture, our customs and traditions. Hear first-hand why our lifestyle is the envy of many as we co-exist alongside Mother Nature using geothermal activity for warmth, cooking and bathing.

Experience Maori culture at its best with a mesmerising and skilful Maori cultural performance with a mihi (welcome), waiata (songs), poi display and the world-famous haka.

At your leisure, continue through the village and partake in some souvenir shopping, or stop at our café and sample some local tasty treats, including our world-famous hangi pie, or a geothermal hangi meal (bookings recommended).

Lastly, maximise your visit by exploring around the village by on our self-guided geothermal nature trails, which offer glorious photo opportunities at every turn.

Loved the performance of traditional Maori songs and dances. As an expat Kiwi, I struggled to hold back tears during the lovely duet of “Pokarekare Ana.”

We liked everything. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I was moved by her songs from the heart. What a fascinating place to live and work.
