Description

Get a lay of the land and start you time in Florence off right with a relaxed evening stroll around the capital of the Italian Renaissance. Meet up with your guide in the early evening and set off through the streets of Florence at a leisurely pace, picking up insider tips and getting acquainted with the charms of this romantic city. Gaze up at the grand Duomo—Florence's renowned 13th-century cathedral—and step into the less-touristed Santa Croce neighborhood, where Inferno poet Dante and artist Michelangelo both lived. Pop into a gelateria to sample the city's favorite dessert and learn how to distinguish good gelato from the not-so-good.

Pass by the vibrant Sant’Ambrogio Market, where locals stock up on fresh produce and gourmet goods. Then, cross the outdoor sculpture gallery in the Piazza della Signoria, where a perfect replica of Michelangelo's David is displayed in the exact spot where the original masterpiece once sat before the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence's town hall.

From there, traverse the medieval span of the iconic Ponte Vecchio to go off the beaten path in the Oltrarno area. Your guide leads the way to the imposing Palazzo Pitti—the palace the ruling Medici family once called home—and the birthplace of Lisa Gherardini, the mysterious woman behind da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Your tour ends in the Piazza di Santo Spirito, among laidback cafes clustered around a lively square where a daily market is held.

Bernardo was full of fun and enthusiasm while teaching us about his home. He helped bring the stories of the history to life. My daughter and I both enjoyed the tour and his company very much

Ishmael was a great guide. Very friendly, helpful and full of information about the history of Florence. He answered lots of questions and showed us some areas to find the best food. The gelato shop he took us to was amazing - so much so that I tracked it down again the next day to get some more! Would definitely recommend this tour as an introduction on your first day in Florence. It’s great for getting a feel of the different districts, knowing where the famous landmarks are and asking any questions you might have before you go off exploring yourself.
