Description

Delve into Chinese imperial history on a day trip from Beijing that immerses you in the centuries-old architecture of long-dead emperors. Walk the underground halls of palatial tombs at Dingling, visit the Great Wall to admire the ancient fortifications at Badaling, and stop midday for lunch and a shopping break at a jade factory.

After you're picked up from your hotel, ride out of Beijing to the Ming tombs, well-preserved imperial mausoleums that date back 500 years. Visit Dingling, the tomb of the Emperor Wan Li, and follow the stone path down to visit the fascinating and labyrinthine Underground Palace, whose gilded floors, stone gargoyles, and sculpted jade entrances were just unearthed in the 1950s.

Explore the tombs before stopping for a traditional Chinese lunch and 45 minutes or so to browse the beautifully carved wares at a jade factory. From there, drive on to reach the Badaling section of the Great Wall, where the gray, stone backbone of the wall traces the ridgeline among dense woods and grassy pastures. Explore this well-preserved segment of the wall, which once served as the northern barrier to protect the capital and the imperial tombs, and opt to take a cable car ride up to the highest point if you'd like. Head back into Beijing and enjoy the Chinese traditional silk arts before you're dropped back off at your hotel.

Took longer then expected and they had added a Jade and Tea house to the tour to sell us product. I would have liked to just gone to the wall and temple to save on travel time. Bus was also late in the morning almost 1 hr. Great Wall was amazing to experience.

I never went, I was supposed to be picked up at my hotel then they changed it to have me meet at another hotel 20 km away. Since I don’t speak Chinese and have ALS so don’t speak at all, this was going to be a problem so I attempted to cancel and they said it was too late. I will pursue this with Capital one.

This was a good tour which covered a lot of ground. The lunch was excellent, a large choice and amount of food, it was all Chinese dishes but you could stick with picking out the rice and veg and still have plenty to eat. The Tea house was great and very instructive as well as the Jade factory, I now know how to tell the real thing from fake. The highlight was the Great Wall and Ming Tombs. Our only criticism was the tour guide needed to be a little louder, some places were very noisy and it was difficult to hear him. The only other problem was other guessed not sticking to the timetable and getting back late, if they had been on time we would have had time to see the Olympic Birds Nest stadium, as it was we could only drive past. This tour is very good value for money.
