Embark with Réunion Diving and meet dolphins and whales off Saint-Gilles to learn more about them!
Want to have an unforgettable and rewarding experience for the whole family, or as a couple or with friends in Reunion? Don't hesitate to join this excursion to meet dolphins and whales in Saint-Gilles! You'll set sail aboard a Zodiac in search of cetaceans along the west coast of Réunion, an educational and magical outing under the supervision of a professional.
From July to October, whales are present off the island, while dolphins are present throughout the year. This excursion from the port of Saint-Gilles will not only allow you to observe them if you find them, but also to learn more about them. And, if all the conditions are right for a swim, you'll have the pleasure of snorkeling with dolphins and whales! All this, of course, while respecting the animals and the law. Also, if there are too many boats at a site where the cetaceans are, their comfort will be prioritized and you'll head to another spot so as not to harass them, but also to have a better chance of snorkeling.
What to expect
Welcome at the center, presentation of the center and the activity
We'll hand out the gear (fins, mask, snorkel, and a 4mm shorty wetsuit) before heading to the boat.
Briefing on board the boat, sheltered from the sun, and about 15 minutes of sailing
First launch without the cetaceans to check that the whole group is ready and increase the chances of success when the animals are present
Get back on the boat and then look for cetaceans while learning about them (random time, cetaceans are still wild animals)
Once the cetaceans are found, observe them to validate whether or not to enter the water depending on the conditions
If possible, get in the water with the instructor to spend 15 minutes in the water at a regulatory distance from the animals
Get back on the boat, and continue the excursion for another swim if there's enough time before heading back to the center
Debriefing on the species encountered during the outing and unloading
