What you can expect

Waterfalls, lakes, and tunnels offer the perfect walking trail along the Rabacal Valley. Admire the paradise landscape surrounding you as you follow your expert guide through the impressive levadas (aqueducts).

The Rabacal Valley is a lush, green valley that offers unique vistas for nearly perfect pictures. Keep your eyes open to discover the hidden treasures of the subtropical laurisilva (laurel forest), home to unique local flora and fauna. As you walk along the levada, the imposing 330-foot (100-m) Risco waterfall comes into view; it consists of water from numerous streams merging farther up the mountainside.

Continuing your walk to 25 Fontes Falls, learn the history behind the impressive levadas, which were constructed in the 19th century to bring water to the people of the island. Explore some of the tunnels and see how water is still transported by this method to the south side of the island.
