What you can expect
Learn to make authentic Filipino cuisine in an intimate setting, and then sit down to lunch or dinner. Get to know a local food lover in her private kitchen as she describes her culinary influences and teaches you to prepare dishes from scratch, including traditional Filipino recipes.
Meet your host at her home and enter the kitchen, where the walls are lined with shelves of books, spices, and condiments. Walk through her green vegetable garden, look around for her homegrown lemongrass and calamansi lime trees as you chat about traditional Filipino recipes, distinguished by their rich meaty flavors and fresh seafood.
Learn how your guide was influenced by the women in her family, and how she has worked to honor and improvise upon regional traditions. Prepare 2 or 3 dishes from near-limitless possibilities. Produce authentic Filipino dishes such as inihaw na baboy (grilled pork chops) and ginataang kalabasa at sitaw (squash and green beans in a coconut milk stew).
In addition to sharing together a series of sumptuous mains, delve into a calamansi pie for desert. Come prepared to try something new, and don't be afraid to share your dietary preferences—your gracious host is nothing if not flexible.
