This experience takes place at Shizuhamo (Seasonal Harmony), a traditional Machiya dedicated to tea ceremony and ikebana culture. Take the Keihan Main Line from Fushimi-Inari Station (Platform 2) on any train except the Express. After a 5-minute ride, get off at Sumizome Station and enjoy a short 5-minute walk to reach Shizuhamo. Stepping through the gate, you will feel as if you have been transported 100 years into the past. The traditional Japanese rooms are filled with items that evoke a time before electricity, gas, and running water, such as authentic paper lanterns (andon), charcoal fires, and water jars. Here, you can enjoy a hands-on experience of the tea ceremony and ikebana, arts once cherished by many in Japan. By booking in advance, you can also opt for a guided session with a tea master to learn how to whisk your own matcha. A unique highlight of Shizuhamo is the opportunity to encounter and touch rare elements of a tea room, including the small nijiriguchi (crawling-in entrance), tsurigama (hanging kettle), hanayose-byobu (flower display screen), stone tea mills, tea jars, and the mizuya (prep area).
