オルセー美術館は旧オルセー駅にあり、フランス最大級の国立美術コレクションを所蔵しています。印象派とポスト印象派の絵画を中心に、彫刻、写真、家具なども展示されています。
ルノワールの「ムーラン・ド・ラ・ギャレットの踊り」、セザンヌの「リンゴとオレンジ」、ゴッホの自画像など、パリで最も優れたギャラリーのひとつです。

ジョン・シンガー・サージェント（1856年フィレンツェ-1925年ロンドン）は、ジェームズ・マクニール・ホイッスラーとともに、同世代のアメリカ人画家の中で最も有名であり、19世紀から20世紀初頭にかけて最も偉大な画家の一人でした。マダムXの肖像」は、ニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館が所蔵するアメリカン・アート・コレクションの「モナ・リザ」と称されています。2025年秋にオルセー美術館で開催される展覧会は、この状況を変えようとするものです。
