What you can expect
We will venture southwest of Yucatán to explore one of the most important ancient Mayan cities on the Peninsula and to learn about the fascinating history and cultural significance of henequen, also known as “Green Gold.”
Uxmal: Mysteries and Majesty of Puuc Architecture
Our first stop will be the archaeological site of Uxmal, “The Thrice Built,” located 80 kilometers from Mérida. Led by your certified private guide, you will explore this impressive site and admire the majestic Puuc-style architecture, typical of this region. The ancient structures still preserve the mysticism of Mayan legends.
You will visit the Temple of the Magician, the Nunnery Quadrangle, the ball court, the Governor’s Palace, and the Great Pyramid. If you’re feeling energetic, ask your guide to take you to the newly opened section known as El Palomar.
Hacienda Mucuyche: History, Legends, and a Cenote Adventure
After this immersion in Mayan culture, we’ll head to Hacienda Mucuyche. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the history of the Yucatecan haciendas and the importance of henequen to the Peninsula and to Mexico.
Your private bilingual guide will assist you with the check-in process and accompany you throughout the visit. Please note that the guided tour in the hacienda will be shared with other travelers, as required by the hacienda’s internal policies.
Once registered, a local bilingual host will lead the historical tour through the ancient hacienda, sharing legends and stories as you make your way toward the cenotes.
After the tour, you’ll have time to change clothes and swim to cool off on the cenotes. The first stop is cenote Carlota, a semi-open cenote whose name carries an interesting story you’ll uncover during the tour.
Then, you’ll swim through a water channel surrounded by lush vegetation, one of the most magical parts of the experience, leading you to Cenote Azul, a breathtaking cave-style cenote that will leave you speechless.
Throughout the entire experience, your private certified guide will be by your side to offer personalized attention, answer your questions, and ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
Flavors of Yucatan: Time to Savor Regional Cuisine
To conclude the tour, you’ll have free time to enjoy the exquisite regional cuisine at the hacienda’s restaurant. Mealtime is flexible to suit your pace.
We’ll then begin our return journey to Mérida to conclude the tour.
