Konchi-in Temple, located within the Nanzen-ji complex in Kyoto, is a sub-temple of the Rinzai Zen sect. Established in 1605 by the famous shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu’s advisor, Ishin Sūden, it is renowned for its stunning traditional gardens designed by the celebrated landscape artist Kobori Enshū. The temple features a serene karesansui (dry landscape) garden, with carefully arranged rocks and raked gravel symbolizing natural elements. Konchi-in is also home to a beautiful pond garden, a tea house, and historical treasures, including fusuma-e (sliding door paintings). It offers a peaceful retreat steeped in Zen aesthetics and history.
