かつては青銅器時代の強大な王のために建てられた驚異的な宮殿で、1500以上の部屋が連なるクノッソス遺跡のガイド付きツアーに参加しよう。クノッソスはヨーロッパ最古の都市とされている。
迷路のような遺跡を歩きながら、「ミノス」のオリジナルの玉座、神秘的な聖域、王家の豪華な住居、クレタ島の宝物庫、水管理システムなどを見学することができる。
クノッソスの最初の宮殿は、紀元前2000年過ぎに建てられた。紀元前1700年、大地震が宮殿を破壊した。すぐに新しい宮殿が建設され、300年以上にわたって青銅器時代のクレタ島における権力の中心地となった。
新しい宮殿は、重要な建築的革新、壁面を飾る見事なフレスコ画、4層に分かれた何百もの部屋、印象的な倉庫、専門的な作業場、儀式や祝宴を催す広々とした中庭を備えた堂々たる複合施設だった。
紀元前14世紀の最後の数十年間、一連の地震によって宮殿が最終的に破壊された経緯を学ぶ。
