We will drive from Luang Prabang to the Khmu village of Ban Nong Heo (approximately 20 km – 40 minutes). Upon arrival, you will have time to explore the village, where traditional stilt houses, freely roaming ducks and buffalo, and villagers at work provide an authentic glimpse into rural Lao life.
From the village, we will set off on a 2-3 hour gentle hike. This hidden trail winds through forested hills and scenic countryside, passing near Ban Thapene (the gateway village to the falls) before arriving directly at a beautiful natural spring.
Here, nestled by the water in a tranquil outdoor setting, you’ll find a small, open-air restaurant run by a local Khmu family—a place rarely seen by other visitors. Enjoy an authentic Lao lunch (choice of dishes) in this stunning natural plaza, knowing your meal directly supports the local community.
After lunch, you’ll reach the top of the falls and descend to the main cascades. Enjoy 2.5 to 3 hours of free time to swim in the stunning turquoise pools, relax, or explore the jungle trails.
The journey continues as we follow the water's path to the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm. Witness how the falls' water irrigates the terraced paddies and taste fresh, traditionally pressed sugarcane juice. You'll see firsthand the vital connection between the forest, the water, and the local way of life.
Conclude your unforgettable day with a magnificent sunset cruise, returning to Luang Prabang around 6:30 PM. This gentle journey back on the Mekong perfectly captures the tranquil spirit of your adventure.
(For those on a tighter schedule, an optional return by minivan is available, arriving in Luang Prabang by 5:30 PM.)
