Description

Leave Las Vegas behind and take a guided Colorado River rafting trip from the outskirts of Boulder City, home of the Hoover Dam. Your raft adventure starts at the monumental Hoover Dam with views of the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and continues with a trip down the Black Canyon National Water Trail where you’re surrounded by majestic sandstone rock formations throughout your journey.

Get an active start to your day with this morning rafting excursion that begins at the base of the Hoover Dam. Board the raft, push off from the shore, and behold this colossal structure as your guide shares the story of this massive concrete edifice. Then, head downriver through the relatively calm waters of the Lower Colorado River. Along the way, behold magnificent waterfalls, bubbling hot springs, and other geological wonders. Keep a lookout for roaming big horn sheep, soaring osprey, water-loving great blue heron, and other wildlife.

Take a break from paddling with a riverside lunch stop, which provides an opportunity to refuel and swim in the cool, crystal-clear water. Once you’ve had your fill, venture back onto the Colorado River and ask your guide any questions you may about the colorful rock strata or the rich culture and history of the Native Americans who live in the area. Your Colorado River rafting tour ends at Willow Beach where you will board your shuttle back to Las Vegas with plenty of time to go wild back in civilization.

Just an okay tour. Two things could make this a much better tour. First the pick up/check in process is unnecessarily long. After the hotel pick up we are driven to Lake Mead RV park where we are "checked in" . The check in consists of you being handed a colour coded card that indicates which raft you will be on and a water bottle and your lunch. Why all this can't be done at the launch point is beyond me. Instead about half an hour is wasted milling around the RV park then everyone is loaded on to a different bus and taken to the launch point about 15 minutes away. Why not takes us directly to the launch site from the hotel? At least half an hour of wasted time. The second problem is the craft itself which is essentially and aluminum deck slung between two pontoons on either side. The seating on the raft runs vertically front to back so that essentially your views are limited to the right side or left side of the craft A party boat with everybody facing forward would be much better.

Excellent view of the dam from below. You get up close and personal at the bottom of the dam. Lots of great opportunities to take pictures. I was amazed at how close we were able to get to the dam. All of the guides are great take the time to make your experience great. After you leave the dam, you head down river. You stop for lunch on a sandy beach where you eat and swim and use the restroom behind a large bush at the far end of the beach. If you do swim remember that the water is very cold but also very refreshing on a hot day. We went in September so it wasn't too hot. Your swim suit should dry out quickly as you continue down river after lunch. There is no shade on the raft, so make sure you wear a hat, sunscreen and cover up as much as possible. Otherwise you will get sunburned. There is plenty of seating. I chose to sit on one of the outer pontoons and dangle my foot in the water. There are no backrests so your back tends to get tired towards the end of the trip.
