This battle is known not only for its strategic and military significance but also for political importance. Highlights include: Creek Indians, Atlanta's Birth and Development, Civil War, The Burning of Atlanta, The Battle of Atlanta in East Atlanta, Rebuilding the City, Segregation - White Flight Integration and Gentrification.

The Battle of Atlanta was fought on July 22, 1864, just southeast of Atlanta, Georgia. Union forces commanded by William T. Sherman, wanting to neutralize the important rail and supply hub, defeated Confederate forces defending the city under John B. Hood.
