What you can expect

Visit Wuhou Shrine, the most significant cultural landmark in Chengdu and a sacred site for enthusiasts of the Three Kingdoms culture worldwide. As the only existing temple in China dedicated to the joint worship of an emperor and his chancellor, it integrates the history of the Shu Han Kingdom, the aesthetics of traditional Chinese architecture, and profound humanistic spirits.

First built during the Shu Han period, this ancient shrine is primarily dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the legendary statesman and strategist of the Three Kingdoms era. It is also integrated with Han Zhaolie Temple, which commemorates Liu Bei, Emperor of Shu Han, forming a one-of-a-kind architectural and ritual pattern that is unparalleled in China’s ancient architectural and sacrificial traditions.

Inside the scenic area, towering ancient cypresses stand tall, winding red walls stretch across the grounds, and elegant bamboo shadows complement the solemn halls. The iconic view of red walls against bamboo shadows has become a highly photogenic spot with profound oriental artistic conception.

The shrine houses a large number of ancient stone inscriptions, plaques, and well-preserved ancient architectural relics passed down through dynasties. Among them, the stone carvings of Chu Shi Biao (Memorial on the Case of Going to War), written by Zhuge Liang himself, are timeless treasures, embodying his lifelong loyalty and dedication to his state.

Adjacent to Wuhou Shrine is Jinli Ancient Street, which infuses this cultural journey with lively local vitality. The ancient street features typical Sichuan-style architecture and rich folk customs, allowing visitors to experience the leisurely lifestyle of old Chengdu and authentic local culture.
