What you can expect
Participate in an authentic Australian Outback experience with a visit to a working sheep farm in beautiful Maroota along the Hawkesbury River. Sample delectable tea made over the campfire, learn about the time-honored tradition of sheep husbandry, and watch energetic farm pups learning to herd.
Soak up the sights and sounds of the Australian Outback during this illuminating tour. After arriving at the farm, greet the day with a cup of billy tea and damper—a bush bread prepared over hot embers. Following your snack, spectate a sheepdog presentation. Delight in a rare opportunity to see sheepdog pups chase runner ducks around a pen, learning to herd. Allow an instructor to teach you about the important skills the earnest puppies must acquire before they will be ready to herd sheep.
Following the sheepdog presentation, see an Outback show in which you can watch resident sheep being fed, rounded up, and shorn. Learn the history of sheep-shearing in Australia, and engage in an informative tutorial in the wool-room, where wool is transformed into yarn for knitting. From here, conclude your tour or, for premium ticket-holders, indulge in a lip-smacking barbecue lunch followed by a fascinating whip-cracking and boomerang presentation.
